Maritime Gardeners

Glace Bay, NS(Zone 5b)

Just wondering if there are any other Maritimer gardeners in Dave's Garden. Would love to compare notes on what grows well and other info.
Barb

My Mom has a lovely garden in Saint John NB. She has lots of luck with perennials, annuals, some rhodos, some roses, clematis, etc.

Blue Cow .I'm surprised that other maritimers didn't respond. The must all be busy with the Canadian Gardening magazine site. Here are some pics I took this week.JOY

Welcome burn!

Oooo, love the perennial geranium behind it too. My fave.

Welcome Burn

How was your garden this summer. I believe you live in one of the best gardening areas of NB. Has the frost hit your area yet? The weather is remaining mild here in Cape Breton, still no frost and my annuals are still in bloom. Keep expecting to get up every day and find them gone. Going to 15 C today and 18 tomorrow. Got to love it.

Wow...still no frost there? My garden was toasted last week....

Thank you for the welcome, you guys. I'm still trying to navigate this site. I loose myself pretty fast. I didn't know how to get back here, but finally found it :) . Yes we had killer frost, most of my flowers have had it. Summer was way to short for my liking. My yard was full of blooms this summer, but now only thing still blooming are my rudbeckia, and spreading roses. The colors on the trees have all gone except for yellows.
Joanne, I have lots of seeds of these geraniums, your welcome to some. I started posting my list, I still have things to add to it. I will try to add more tonight. Bern

Bern - would love some of your geranium seed. I haven't set up a trade list, but I'll try and do it this week so you can see if there's something you might like. I mostly have commercial seed to trade right now, but lots of it...

Hi Barb,

I garden in St. John's, Newfoundland...technically Atlantic Canada, not the maritimes, but we have much the same growing conditions. Hard to narrow down what grows well here. I'm in zone 5b as well but I think Glace Bay is probably milder than St. John's...you certainly don't get the snow we do. But then, the snow is a great insulator so many winters the ground here doesn't even have frost.

We had a partial killing frost a few days ago....some Dahlias toast, others OK. I'd say our fall colours are peaking right now...the treees have really coloured up in the last few days.

Hi bluecow; I decided today to look for color in my yard other then yellow. I've gathered all my containers together, and found these still giving me a little color this late in the season.

Lucky you!

Thanks Joanne, but it won't be for long, my canopy is coming down tomorrow. No more protection for them. They're announcing snow for beginning of next week, and DH wants to take it down before the snow hits. Guess this is the end of our growing season. boo hoo. Ha well, I'll concentrate on my little birdies. and start thinking of wintersowing.

We had 3 cm of snow last night. And get this, Calgary had a record high temperature of +23C yesterday. Bizarre, eh?
