Hot Air Balloon in my neighborhood

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Wow....kind-of a surprise when I went out to bike this morning---saw a hot air ballooon floating above my neighbors house not to high off the ground! Strikes me as neat since I've not seen one in YEARS, since living in Colorado---balloon rides is big business there so we'd see them regularly. So I RUN in to get my digital upstairs and when I come back down----GONE. Since I had planned to bike anyways I biked the neighborhood in the direction it was going. GONE. So weird, had no idea they were that fast!

TNG, if you look to the west, there are many, many! Don't know if they have rallies or races, but they are not rare around Fry & Mason!

Wow, cool!

Aren't they beautiful. I'd love to get a balloon ride, but when I mentioned it to my husband once, he actually said it was a bad idea. Too dangerous. Surprised me from the guy who rides his motorcycle around without a helmet.

It's funny you say that you were surprised to see one. I guess I have taken it for granted that we have them floating around us several times a month - mostly in the spring and fall. Maybe it's because Plano is south of us and has the yearly balloon fest that makes them common around here. I used to see them more close to my old house about a mile and a half south. We had one brush the top of a house in the neighborhood once and another set down at the end of my street. That was really cool. All the kids in the neighborhood just loved that. And the adults had their cameras out. The owner or whatever had the kids "help" roll the balloon up to get it in the van.

One interesting note - my golden retriever is terribly afraid of them - wimpering and whining, scratching at the door scared. Poor thing.

What did the envelope look like, Tir_Na_Nog? Maybe I know them...

One morning years ago, I had gone out in the backyard early one morning in my robe to have coffee and enjoy the quiet morning. I kept hearing this pssst....psssst.....pssst. Finally I realized where it was coming from and looked up just in time to see it clearing my house and coming into view. The guy in the basket said "good morning" and stunned, I called back a "morning". LOL! They are beautiful and I would love the opportunity to go up in one on a "light-breeze" day.

You guys in Houston and the Dallas-Ft. Worth area are in prime locations for hot air ballooning. If you're ever really serious about riding let me know. I know a large portion of the ballooning community and could work on getting you on with a reputable pilot in your area. Crew a few times and they'll even fly you for free.

sweet!!!!!!!!!! thank you!!! is it permitted for children to ride to? how many people per balloon?

i remember calling when in colorado and it was a couple hundred bucks for rides.

is it permitted for children to ride to?
*** Depends on the age of the child and the pilot's preference.

how many people per balloon?
*** Depends on the size of the envelope. A sport balloon up to 3; a 'cattle car' upwards of 12

i remember calling when in colorado and it was a couple hundred bucks for rides.
*** They still are; that's why I said crew and fly for free. ; - >

Be forewarned though - ballooning is even more addicting than gardening!!!!
