Ours were quite busy than disappeared to nest. Reappeared for about 2 weeks, now am only seeing males again. Do they do more than one brood?? These would be Ruby's. Is there a site that give you this type of information?
??? About Hummers
Hi nanny! Heres a site you can check out.
http://hummingbirds.net/
Thanks! I did not see anything to answer my question there, so I sent an email. Will see if I get a response!!
"There's very little data on multiple broods in the midwest. I suspect
there's not time for more than one brood at your latitude. However,
an early nest failure would likely result in immediate renesting,
with chicks fledging later than normal."
This is the reply I got back from Lanny Chambers.
So I wonder if has to do with the heat??? We are in the 90's right now.

More likely the first nest failed due to predation - the eggs would be a tasty little treat for many other birds, snakes, squirrels, etc., justabout anything that could find and reach the nest.
