What is this rooster?

Goodells, MI

I bought several unsexed chicks, including one little runt who called to me. We named him "Tiny Petie" because somehow we knew he was going to be a rooster. He is 16 weeks old and has become the "HRIC" (head rooster in charge lol). He is quite a flirt and a show off, and does some mean foot dancing. (Ever wonder what some of the weird things they do is about?) Anyway, here's a pic. Thanks, Laureen

Hmm, he looks a lot like my "Happy Feet", a Gray Japanese Bantam! Only yours looks to have longer legs!

Here is an updated picture of Petie. He is the most lovable rooster but takes his HRIC position very seriously!! Good rooster. Sometimes he flutters, flaps and struts for me too. Lucky girl am I!

He is a game cock and nice looking one also! Ruler of the yard! He has some nice hackel and saddle feathers that could make some good "fishing flies". You may want to save some as they fall out for future use. I love to hear those roosters crowing even if it does wake me up.

This looks just like two little roosters I got today!! He looks to be full grown (as mine are), do you know if he is?? If so, he is NOT a game rooster used in cockfighting (I know as I have a couple of games myself and he resembles a grey but is not) but is some sort of Old English Bantam. They are smaller than BB reds but I don't know the exact name and am looking into it myself. There is a gentleman here in GA that I am going to contact next week to see if he knows and hopefully find me a couple of hens. Hope one of us finds out, if I do I will let everyone know.........

Bubbles, It could easily be an OEG Bantam ... aka Olde English Game Fowl. I too suspect it is precisely that breed. They have been used for fighting in the UK for almost 500 hundreds of years ... but have been relegated to being show birds for quite a while (cock fighting is illegal there). I too have BB Red Game Fowl. Mine are not bantam but the bantam BB Reds are not all that dis-similar to the OEG's. If one had BB Red OEG's ....... I think we'd all be impressed with the common features of both breeds. Chickens are great fun. I have a Welsumer roo (BB Red). He is 2-3 lbs heavier than my BB Red Game Fowl. Any of my Game Fowl roos would likely beat the stuffing outta my Welsumer roo. Game Fowl are tireless and tough and once they get going in a fight will not stop till one or the other combatant drops dead. I had a few Marans roos that did the same but once I got them separated from my laying hens ... they were many times less confrontational.

Thanks for all the input. I've been looking around, and am also thinking old english game bantam. He is very calm and gentle too. I tell you, he's amazing. He had all the girls and other roosters and the guineas in a tight circle the other da;y and was crowing up a storm . He actually ran to the dust bath area and hustled the last of the girls into the circle. He kept pacing around the circle, facing out and crowing. Well, don't you know there were hunters running dogs on our property. They didn't know I was home, and I hear all these gunshots, and they were not 200 or so feet from my back door. And....when I ran back to tell them to get off my land, Petie ran along side me and was ruffling and fussing at the guy, too! I tell you, that bird was going to get him a piece of that tresspasser!!! What a comfort to know I have that 2 or 4 pound protector!! lol

I have never had a problem with my bantam OEG fighting.......I also raise Grey and Butcher game chickens (as well as a few others), now they have the genes passed down from their ancestors (but I love them nontheless, they all have their own personalites). I took one of my roos to a friend of mine that has raised bantams for a long time and he said they were silver duckwing OEG bantams. I just can't wait till they come full cock and look like their daddy!!!! I will try to post a pic of my boys sometime today.........

i raised silver and gold duckwing oegb last year for show before i decided to sell them and focus on another breed. your boy looks similar to what i remember but to me the tail and wing position and such look different. i believe he is a silver dutch. i tried to find pics on feathersite to compare but they don't have the silver duckwing oegb from what i saw unless i missed it. here is the page link for a silver dutch male.

Mine are closer in size and color to the silver duckwings. It looks like the dutch are a bit bigger and maybe a tad darker in color.

i have never seen pics of yours, so i honestly could not say.

the one pictured here is only about 7mths old so that makes it harder to tell since it doesn't have the adult plumage yet. reguardless of which he is he is still gonna be a gorgous roo when fully grown!!
