Pumpkin Tree 2nd Try

Drumheller, Canada(Zone 3b)

Okay I will try this again. I don't know what is wrong...ANYWAY here hopefully is a picture of my Pumpkin Tree. I got the seeds on E-Bay and it is really a different plant. You have to be very careful as the leaves have a large sharp thorn on them.

How big are they going to get? never seen anything like it.

Pretty amazing. Can we see a picture of the whole tree please.

Drumheller, Canada(Zone 3b)

They do not get very big maybe at most 4 inches across.
Here is the whole plant. It is in a large pot outside by my arbour.

Here is the leaf. As I said they have a very large sharp thorn on them so you really have to be careful when you put your hands in there.

I don't have a vegetable garden and I know pumkins like a lot of space so I like the idea of being able to grow it in a container. Is it a proper pumpkin that you can eat, kinnika ?
Heather

Those leaves are nasty. Ouch

Heather, the pumpkins stay very small and if you bake them with a roast or something like that they are really good. I think the Europeans eat them quite regularly. We went to a restaurant years ago and it was a very splashy place and we had them served as part of the meal..I just love the plant it is sooo different.

Is that ever cool! Mean pokies on those leaves though!
Kinnika, what are you going to do with the tree? Does it need to be brought indoors for the winter?

Grow --It is a very tropical plant so I will take it into my sunroom and see how long I can keep it going. I just tried it because it was different. I hope to get a few seeds as I want to plant some next year around my apple tree and see if I can keep the deer away. I really don't think they will like those thorns. LOL

What an interesting plant. But I agree, NASTY spikes on those leaves. What happens if you trim them back (the thorns) where you think you might need to reach?

Plant probably has teeth too, and would give you a bite for cutting it's thorns. LOL.
