Help for banana tree

Arlington, WA(Zone 8a)

We just purchased two banana trees that were very healthy in their pots. We removed our rhodendrons and put them in their place. Now one of the banana trees leaves are turning black. Should I have done something to prepare the soil better? We are new to tropical gardening.

What species of Musa? If it's in place of rhodos, I wouldn't think it would be getting enough sunlight. Were your rhodos planted in full sun?

it is a hardy banana. It does not get morning sun but it has full sun the rest of the day.

Don't count them as a loss just yet....I've chopped down banana trees and had them resprout while waiting in the trash pile. They grow from the roots, so even if the original plant dies, the roots will most likely send up another plant. It's very hard to kill them. Until they get good and settled, don't allow their roots to sit in soggy soil. Once they get going, they can handle both drought and flood fairly well.
