Grey Hen Hatched 6 RIR Bantam chicks

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

She was sitting on 17 of her own eggs under a boxwood next to the house. I don't have a rooster and a friend of mine was having trouble hatching RIR bantam eggs, so I got 6 of them from him. I replace her 17 eggs with the 6 RIR eggs. 3 weeks later........

Thanks Eric.
Eufaula, my wife already thinks I'm crazy for all the plant pics I take. This will drive her crazy! This little hen is a great mother. She gaurds them very well and I haven't had to feed the chicks anything since their arrival on Saturday. She finds them insects and tears the bugs into little bite sized pieces. Here's another pic...

I love to watch a new mother hen with her brood. They are so protective and caring about them. And they (chicks) are so cute and try to do everything she does. Fun to watch.
