Wanted: Buffalo grass
I have Buffalo Grass, a yard full if you would like some!
well i want a yard full too. lol. lmk what kind of plants you are looking for. i want as big a clump of this grass as you can send. i might even like a flat rate box if you have that much but i just need to know if i am going to have any plants you can use. thanks for getting in touch with me. barb
Oh I see! Well out of your 175 I am sure there are somethings I would like to have! LOL
I have never seen some of your Canna colors before, and the Sage/Salvia would be nice I think!
I might still be able to get you a bag of seed of Buffalo Grass! It is great I don't have to water everyday, and it does not get really tall fast either! I love it! It you keep it watered it is as nice as any other lawn!
Let me know!
If you're talking about a whole yardful of Buffalo grass, that takes a lot of seed or whatever. Seeds you plant in the spring. It doesn't compete well with weeds, so the faster you get thick coverage the better. Also, whatever else you have has to be completely wiped out before planting...it really doesn't compete well. I think Native American Seed and Plants of the Southwest sells the seeds for it. It works only in sun, not in fairly shady areas.
Well I have it and it has spread under a tree. It is beautiful once you get it going!
The thicker it gets the better it fights of weed is true, but true of all grasses!
I know this is a native TX grass. I keep mine cut realy short and it spreads and stays thicker it seems.
I moved in this home 2 years ago and it was taken some time to get things turned around and it is looking SO much better then last year!
I love the grass! Low mowing care and watering needs! I lony have to mow every 2 weeks and that is giving it water!
If you would like to trade let me know! I will see what I can do about getting you a pound or so of seed!
I LOVE my buffalo grass. I only cut it about every month or every other month.
well is it true that this grass only gets about 6 in. tall? if that is true i am never going to cut it. lol. ain't yall glad i am not your neighbor? i have rabbits that have no where else to go though.

Man oh man! It is wheel'n an deal'n time! LOL Yes Buffalo does not get over 6 inches tall. I will see if I have some that has a head on it that needs to be mowed tomorrow and get a pick!
I am pretty sure I can get some seed around here too! How much is the question! How much do you need/want? What is the area you need covered?
I will look up these plants and go over your list and see what I want! LOL
I will try and let you know about seed and plants tomorrow!
sounds good. i will take as much as you can send. if you can even send over a flat rate box that is good too. if you don't want my plants i can send postage and a little to cover the work involved in doing this.
i have been actively trying to get rid of all of the bermuda grass that is here for several years now. i will prob. make a buffalo grass "bed" out of what you are sending so that it can just grow at it's own pace. if you send the seeds i can sow them in that bed next spring.
Oh now I see you are by Dallas! I was thinking of driving you some, but that is at least a 6 hour trip! LOL
I don't think it is to late for you to plant this year. We don't get our first freeze until Novber anyway!
I D-Mailed ya, so I will not go into it again here!
Talk to you soon!
mamajack it would be worth the cost to drive down and pick up the grass and get it back.. I have found grasses really hate to be trapped in a box for a few days.
well i am thinking of waiting till sept. if txflower is willing.
I can drive half way, or maybe make a trip out of it. I don't knwo what there is to stop and see there! LOL
I think shipping seed would be cheaper and safer too!
Here are some picks! This is not mowing after about 2 weeks! I think I can't remeber exactly when I mowed last, but we got some rain so...! LOL
i love it. hahaha. if you could only see the evil little grin i have on my face just smirking at the city of fate. if it only gets 6 in. tall i will never, never, never mow it. no not ever. hahahahaha
how did everyone get there buffalo grass started......plants or seeds? if you are going to ship seeds would you please send me one clump of this grass just so i can see it.
Evil grin? So is Fate a itty bitty town? Or does everyone want Buffalo? LOL
Yes I can send some grass. I really have not mowed in at least two weeks! LOL It does not get tall at all! It is more fuzzy then tall it that makes since. The seed it puts off, if you can see it, does get a little taller.
I am going to pull some out of my drive way, where the what every it is, has gone back to dirt! LOL But I have some other good spots that I can take from. I just am not sure how to ship it, or how much it will $$ dirt and all.
I send you a lonf D-Mail about the plants! LOL
this is how i would ship ................i would dig it and soak it for a little while. then i would wash all of the dirt off the roots and wrap them in damp paper towels. if you have potting soil i would put just a little around the roots before i wrapped them in paper. then you wrap the paper in plastic and seal it either with tape or a rubber band. do not put the whole plant in plastic. just the wrapped roots. then wrap the whole plant in newspaper or some such, pack them in a box, punch some holes in the box and ship them. if you want to see pictures check the first thread on the plant trading forum. it gives a good description and also shows pictures. these roots look pretty good so i think these plants would ship just fine. i am still not home but will be by tomorrow afternoon and will talk to you when i get home.
I never knew that that was buffalo grass! I've got alot of that grass and I love it because my chickens and turkeys eat the seeds. Its very low maintenance and I find that where it grows, weeds don't. Mamajack, if you would like some more, I can bring some to the swap.
broncbuster, i know what you mean. i have always wondered if i didn't have some of it growing in my yard and didn't know it too. that is why i wanted some plants to check against.
