I found this yesterday in the downtown area. It is growing in front of a jewelry store and has obviously been there for quite some time. I'm thinking maybe I can grow brugs outside after all?

Tuscaloosa Brug
That looks like about one seasons growth. It will die to the ground in winter in your zone but if heavily mulched it should come back. Key word is should lol! I had a couple that didn't come back for me this year. Hopefully some folks in your zone will chime in with their experience!

It's about 3' tall with five or six stems/trunks (sorry if that's not the correct term). It came back from the ground to this in one season? Wow. I had no idea they would come back that big in just one season.
Karen
I'd call it a trunk but Im sure there are some that would say stem no matter really lol! Im not sure how much care that plant gets but I would say its pretty healthy someone has been taking care of it. I have 3 of those in may yard and they all bloom in Summer and die to the ground in Winter. Its a pretty tough one and likes to bloom in big flushes.
If it would ever stop raining here I would get a pic of mine.
Do you know the owner of the Jewelry store? You might ask them about it. Who knows you may have a Brug buddy in the making!! I bet if you asked really nice like they may even give you that nice above the Y cutting thats hanging over the sidewalk as it may be broken off anyway lol!
Good Luck!

If they wont give ya one I just took a bunch of cuttings off of mine. Dmail me if you want some.
Caren
thats really very lovely.. neat to have business growing it to.. hope you can get cutting..
Karen,
I'm your neighboring brug's fan also here. The yellow one is beautiful, but even local nursery didn't have them this year. Yes, this plant is hardy in our regions. I've planted a couple in the back yard, but they haven't bloomed yet. Our weather has been rather difficult this year. By the end of the growing season, most people around here will take cuttings to root for next year crop (just in case they get killed by extreme temp. drops). If you're interested. Keep touch by d-mailing me later. I should have some cuttings to spare. No charge, this is one of those type of plant/gift that keeps on giving. :-)

Hey, Glendale Kid: I wonder where that brug is growing? I was wondering if it was one I planted on University Blvd. a few years ago.
The store that was there was Bama Beads. But they did not have a watering system installed.
gloria125,
It's on Greensboro -- about half a mile south of University, on the northeast corner -- Hudson-Poole Jewelers.
Karen
Glendalekid: Nope. I didn't plant that one.
