A little wagon

Wayne, NE

My mom made me a wagon out of landscape timbers and I just had to show it off. I never dreamed everything would take off this well.

Little Squirt,

That is beautiful!!!! I did not have much luck with that new Raspberry Petunia in my yard or in my pots. I still have a little of it in one bed--struggling along. What kind of soil is in that container and what fertilizer did you use. I would like to try that pretty petunia again next year.

Dellrose-As soon as the plants are done I'll try to get you some more accurate measurements. But for the time being the picture was found in meisel and she made her own from that, just looking at the picture. They actually have it on their website, but roughly the box part is 4 landscape timbers high, it is about 2' wide and probably like 3 1/2 to 4' long.

Betty-I really have no idea what kind of dirt it was-I'd say more than likely it was the Expert brand from Walmart, that is what I normally buy. No fertilizer. Sometimes I forget to water it and the coleus get a little droopy. Maybe that's why your petunias didn't take off?too wet?

Thank you Little Squirt. I showed it to DH and he said he can build me one. Your mom did a great job on it. Thanks again...Rose

Thanks Little Squirt,

That wagon planter is something else!!! Your mom is to be commended. That should be in a Garden Magazine for sure!!!!!!!

Beautiful! I also grew those new raspberry petunia's. Love them. Hope I can find them again next year. Beautiful planter (of what I can see of it with those huge, gorgeous plants!)

staceysmom,

I like the new raspberry petunias but I had no luck with them./ I am thinking I watered too much because Little Squirt said sometimes she forgets to water. What are you doing to have luck with yours?

(GayLynn) Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Mine are in a huge planter box and I too did not water like I usually do. (little rain here) So maybe that is the key.... less water. I did fertilize with Miracle-gro every 3 weeks though.

Thanks Staceysmom,

I am going to try them again next year with less water. I have a tendency to over-water anyway. Did you post a picture of yours? I may have missed it,

i have some of the Raspberry Blast petunias in this planter. They are beautiful and I had good luck with them. I water them everyday and have fertilized several times since I planted them. Eleanor

wow Grammyphoeb---that is beautiful!!! What do you fertilize with and what is the weather up there in NY right now? We are having 100 degrees heat index for the next 2 weeks with no rain in sight!!! Boy is it hot hot hot in Louisville.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

I used Miracle Grow Potting soil with the fertilizer in it and use Espoma plant tone or flower tone - can't remember which it is - every couple of weeks . We only have an occassional day that is that hot and most of the time the temperature is in the 80's. Tomorrow it is supposed to be 90 and humid. I do notice that the petunias don't like it when it is really hot and need more water.

Nice Mom you have Little Squirt! And very talented! I love your little wagon! I'm gonna show the photo to my hubby to see if he will do something like that for me! Did she use plywood for the bottom, or is the entire thing made with the landscape timbers? You will have to tell her that everyone likes it so much there are gonna be many knock-off's of her project out here in Gardening land!! Love it!

Beautiful Petunia's y'all have .... I haven't planted Petunia's in a long time but might get some next spring. It's been so hot and humid here for the past month ... mid to high 90's with the heat index at 110 the past two days! I did yard work at 9:00 this morning so I could finish before it got really hot! A couple of nights ago I checked the outside temp at 1:30 a.m. and it was still 84 degrees outside!!! Too, Too, Hot!!

plantladylin-the entire thing is made out of landscape timbers. After the plants come out of it I'll take a pic of it. If this heat and humidity keeps up the way it has around here it won't be long.

I filled an old wheelbarrow with petunias, geraniums and impatiens - to hide my DH's junk pile...
actually only a couple petunias hiding in the back of this pic

debilu,

That is very lovely and still looking great for August!!

(Zone 1)

I showed my DH the pic of your wagon LS ... sure hope I can talk him into making me one! It is really a neat idea .... very creative and talented Mom you have!

debilu: Beautiful wheelbarrow planting! I'm waiting (not so patiently) for my DH's old wheelbarrow to rust out so I can plant it up! Tried talking him into getting a newer, heavy duty one ... couldn't convince him that he really, really needed a new one! I might just have to get him one for his Birthday or Christmas! :)

plantlady - my DH doesn't throw anything away - he had a new wheelbarrow, but was still holding on to the old rusty, flat tired one. Why? I don't know. So I stole it and parked it in front of some other stuff he won't throw away to help hide it! It actually is one of my favorite combinations.

(Zone 1)

debilu .... my DH just puts air in the flat tire of his wheelbarrow and still uses it, rust and all! The wooden handles were so bad, he wrapped them with duct tape a few years ago .... looks pretty shabby! So, instead of hiding a junk pile (my hubby's junk pile is too large to hide) .... I would just have to disguise the wheelbarrow with lots and lots of flowers!!!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

oh my gosh - my DH was filling the tire - even though he had a new one.... well not anymore!
