Nerium Oleander

Montreal, Canada

I bought a small plant in May which was flowering at the time. But since then, it has grown quite a bit without new flowers. Any ideas on how I can get the flowering process started again. Many thanks.

By the way, is it true that it likes being root bound to flower?

Keeping it on the dry side will help-and as much sun as you can give it

Whenever I try to keep it try, the bottom leaves turn yellow

They bloom best with lots of heat and lots of sun--they decorate all the freeway medians throughout California. They are very drought tolerant, obviously you don't want to let it completely dry out, but when they're planted in the ground they can get through our entire rain-free summer without extra water (hence the planting in freeway medians!). So if your bottom leaves are turning yellow I don't think it's from too little water unless you let them get totally bone dry.

As far as why yours isn't blooming--first thought would be not enough heat/sun, second thought would be that it's growing a lot, could be it got a bit too much fertilizer and so it's focusing on green growth rather than flowers.

Ecrane 3, you are probably right about too much fertiliser! I had put a slow release fertiliser in soil when I transplanted it.

Yes, I usually let the plant go bone dry before watering it.

I wouldn't let it get bone dry, let the top several inches of soil dry out, but since it's in a container you don't want to let it get completely dry.

Use a bloom booster fertlizier, after all they belong to the same family as plumerias, they need more Phosphorus.
