Plant ID?

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Here is another one that popped up in the garden. At first I thought it was a marigold....but it is everywhere, and does not have flowers.

We had another thread going with this same plant, trying to ID it. I think they finally decided it is dog fennel. It looks almost exactly like a cosmos. It seems lots of unusual things are popping up everywhere with all the rain we've had.

No it's not the same plant. Dog fennel leaves are very fine. More like dill.

Has this bloomed at all? Without looking at it in bloom, ID is iffy, but the leaves look like False Ragweed, Parthenium hysterophorus. I'm not completely comfortable with that though.

I have something very similar in my garden, but I've never been able to ID it. My unknown grows more upright, branching from a single stem. Never seen flowers. It blooms because I get lots of new ones every year.

Well, looked up both dog fennel and western ragweed....appears not to be either.

Help!

Pam, Western Radweed blooms from mid-summer into fall. You may have to wait until the plant blooms. Is the large clump a single plant or a clump of several? A close-up of the leaves would help. Mine could be Western Radweed. The shape of the plant seems to be the same. The ones I have are in an area that doesn't get extra nutrients. I'm going to keep a closer eye out for flowers. Thanks Josephine.

You are welcome Veronica, how are things at the ranch?

The new picture is much more like mine.....although NOW I have no wish to claim it! :-)

Thank you, Frostweed.

I have to say these Texas weeds are extremely tenacious.....I sorta admire them--the little buggers!

Thanks All.

You are welcome Pam. The plant is very pretty, but that is the worst one for pollen, so if you want you can keep some until the set buds, but get rid of them at that point.
Josephine.
