Hi Neighbors & Fellow Texans!
Cindee and the staff at Green Mama's in North Richland Hills has asked me to conduct a presentation about butterflies. It will be a basic orientation and slide show spotlighting our common butterflies, recognition of stages in their life cycle, host plants, and Xtras including brief bits about attracting butterflies, and predators. I will be bringing any live specimins that I have with me. Right now I have about 7 different species in various stages.
So many DGers have graciously contributed not only pictures, but the most excellent support to me in this field of my passion for conservation. I want as many of you who can make it out to come and join me.
You all are ALL cordially invited!! Please come and bring a friend!
Feel free to use this thread to organize a carpool!

:-) Deb
That is THIS next Saturday!!!!!! Wouldn't miss it, I will be there too. Look forward to touring Green Mama's afterward also.
Awesome Sheila! TY!
It is a privledge to share the importance of native and host plants in the environment. Since most of the commercial nurseries don't carry them, we need to let people know what is slipping through our fingers faster than the dirt we dig.. Along with all the most beautiful wildlife (the sad part).
All we can do is inform the people, and hopefully the demand for native plants will be raised with their awareness. It surpeises me how little even nursery owners know about this. So this is a little 'somthin somethin'' we CAN do!
You guys are all heart!
Deb
I will be there. I would love to learn about butterflies and natives.
Anna
Look forward to meeting you too Anna!
Oh, and Deb that is a great picture!!! I have never seen one is such great detail. Btw, my Monarch cat rescue last week has gone to chrysalis today!!
Thx Sheila! Good to hear on the Monarch. The time inside the chrysalis is exactly 8 days. So expect it to eclose on the 7th of Aug. Yaaay!
I took a lot of pictures while this one was eclosing, and it took at least a couple hours from the time it went from green to transparant.
Anna, I am looking forward to meeting you too!
Here is some unfirling of the Monarch in the first post.
I am sure that is just a little tast of what you have in store for the presentation Sat. morning! I didn't realize the Monarch chrysalis was clear before they eclosed. Learn something all the time.
Well it is finally the day.....looking forward to seeing everyone there.
We plan to be there Deb, and I hope everyone else too.
Josephine.
After the event was over they still stayed so they could talk to her one on one, and look at the cats display she brought. Deb also handed out a lot of great printed information to compliment her powerpoint presentation. She gave those attending a new appreciation for the crawly critters that they come across in the garden. Green Mama's brought in loads of bf host plants for the occassion too.
Great job Debnes!
