Hi gang
thought I should tell you that I volunteer for one of the best rescue organizations
in America. It is the Great Lakes Mastiff Rescue. www.glmr.org It is a 6 state organization,
and very active. Just this weekend, I and my Atti went to Grand Haven,MI for
the Coast Guard Festival, and we were in the parade and then at the booth
all day representing GLMR. We feature lots of our dogs for adoption on
Petfinder, just look under Mastiffs. Lots of our members cannot have a dog,
but they collect food and towels and toys and leashes and beg and borrow,
some pet meds for our foster dogs. we take in medical needs dogs, and
if it is possible, we provide the best up to date surgery and care for them. Last
year alone, we spent over $11,000 on surgery and medical care for some of
the rescued dogs. My DH and I take in foster dogs, till a Forever Home can
be found for them. Not every dog makes it though, and I have had a few that
were so mistreated and neglected, that they had to be put to sleep because
of malnutrition and diseases that come from severe abusive situations. they
are all heart tuggers, let me tell you!
Please go to Petfinders and look up JuneBug in the Michigan Mastiffs.
She is our newest foster, and she is gaining weight and being so happy-she
is just about the best dog ever. My vet said, that the dogs that have the special
needs are the ones with the biggest hearts and love. They have never known
any other life, and are just so appreciative of any kindness and attention.
I cannot say enough good things about our Mastiffs. They are big, to be sure,
but not that big anymore, at least to me and my husband. They don't eat so much,
as they are easy keepers. They just want to be with you and the family. To keep
them penned up outside is heartbreaking for them. They cannot take it. They need
to be under your feet and sleeping by your bed or your childrens bed. They are the
worlds most devoted and gentle guard dog. Their sheer size would deter anyone
from even thinking about coming into your house illegally. They are the BEST with
children. They have been bred to be the families guard dog, and that is their best
trait. They are loyal, clean, short haired, super gentle, quiet, not barkers, don't break
things, smart and funny. Kings had them originally to guard their castles, as all the
dogs wanted to do was to just be with the family and stay in the castle.
I sure do love my Mastiffs and just wanted to share our story with you all.
If anyone has any questions, please contact me through DM.
Regards to all,
sheri
