Fun Fun Fun Pictures!!!!!!! Nice photography - really tough subjects!! (Not especially cooperative when in flight, wouldn't you say???!!!)

The camera I use is a digital with a very slow reacting shutter. I have to spot the bird coming in and then anticipate where it's going to be when the shutter fires. Most of the time it's poor light conditions and being an old codger I have slow reactions so I miss a lot of chances. But it gives me something to do in the evenings. I decided to post these now, because Tuesday morning were on our way to Idaho for ten days. I hope to get some good bird pics.

My last digital was like that, too - my two granddaughters were goofing off at the pool one time, doing some synchronized diving (so to speak) and I had to do the same thing . . . so I know what you're talking about!

We'll look forward to your Idaho photos!!

Nice pix, adel. Yep, my camera is like that, too. Which is why I only have a few really bad pix of the barn swallows, lol. You can't predict where those acrobats will be next! Adel, do you know what kind of birds #'s 5 and 9 are? I think I saw a bird like #5, yesterday, and I had no idea what it was. Is #9 a parakeet? It looks blue.

Kris' They are both Scrub Jays. The low light makes it hard to get a good clear pic.

Ahhhhh. So I guess #5 is a female, then?

Not sure, but the main difference in the coloring between the two is that with #5 you are seeing the under parts of the wings and body which is grey instead of blue.

adelbertcat, very interesting photos. Do you live in or near a woods area to have scrub jays . I live in Wash. desert area, about 15 or so miles south of Canadian border. The only trees near me are ones either my neighbor or I have planted in the past 13 years, and a few poplars. I do have a lot of birds and keep my feeders going all year. Right now this time of year there are about 3 doz. Goldfinches, and a few Pine Siskins at the upside down nyjer feeder. They say to estimate how many hummingbirds, count how many you can see at one time and multiply by 4, by that way of counting there are more than 100 in my yard. I have 6 hummer nectar feeders around the house. I have to hang them in different areas to prevent the several male Roufus from controlling all the feeders. Here I have Blackchinned, Rufous, and Caliope.

For ground feeders I have 10 - 12 Turtle or Morning Doves, 50 or so this time of year Calif. Quail, (in the winter I feed between 200 and 300 quail, there are zillions of House Finches, lots of House Sparrows. There are many others but I have to go out to the garden before it gets too hot.

adelbertcat, have a good time in Idaho.

Rutholive... our property is about two hundred yards from the Klamath River and it butts against the Klamath National Forest. Pic was taken from the back porch. What shows in the pic is our property where it meets the USFS on top of the ridge.
