I am a real new water gardener. I've had my whiskey barrel set up for at least 6 weeks. I''ve noticed a bunch of these teeny tiny bugs swimming around. They are multiplying quickly. I only have one plant and they don't seem to be eating it. They aren't mosquito larvae because I know what they look like. They don't have any distiguishing legs, sorta oval shaped, but very small. Pencil point size. I have searched and searched for an answer on my own. I know someone here can help me. Thanks
Melanie
Tiny bugs in my whiskey barrel
If they are oval and have a hard shell they are just what I call "water bugs" they zip around in the water very quickly and will not harm anything. There are also smaller bugs without the hard shell that live in the water. They are very tiny and do not have a shell. These are water fleas and again will not harm anything. Fish really love to eat those.
Tetley: I think you nailed it. Water Fleas! I did a google search. We also scooped some out. Looked at them with a microscope and magnifying glass. Had the whole family involved, what fun. So now were off to Wally World to buy some goldfish. Thanks for responding.
