Pink on pink .... first bloom!

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

In June, I moved this Hoya (Krimson Queen) to the backyard in a semishady bright light spot because of construction.

After construction was done and I moved it back to the front porch, I was delighted to discover a bloom.

Pink (bloom) on pink (new growth) ~ this is the first... of hopefully many!

Pod I just love the pink in those leaves. The flower is really nice too.

It seemed odd that the two new leaves seemed to support the bloom.

I guess these form spurs after the first bloom also? This bloom doesn't have a spur yet.

Medford, NJ

The spur will be more noticable after the flowers drop, they will get longer and longer with each bloom. Very pretty, doesn't look like a very old plant either, looks like you got a flower on a young one!

I've had it quite a few years put moved it into a larger pot last year. Surely didn't expect blooms this quickly. It seems to be a slow grower or is struggling under my care...

Medford, NJ

This one grows slow for me too.

Congratulations Podster . Your hoya blooms are beautiful. I can't wait for mine to bloom.

Thanks Patti ~ I have one more that has never bloomed ~ Krimson Princess. I am reminded of "the watched pot never boiling'... I maybe watching that pot for awhile.

Very Pretty.

Thank you ~ Tami and all... It's not much but I was excited as it is the first...

Pretty bloom!

Thank you Karen!

I guess part of the surprise here was the bloom was right below new growth. My other Hoyas bloom on old growth not right at the end of a stem.

We all can and do relate to your excitement. :-)

Does anyone have a Hoya (Krimson Queen) blooming right now? I guess I had hoped for fragrance but this one has none. Does yours have fragrance?

Long Beach, CA

Mine smells like the typical hoya carnosa smell. To me it sort of smells like baby chicken feed. I really have no other way to describe it but that, but all carnosas seem to have it to one degree or another. Much more so in the late evening or very early morning. Not much smell in mid day.
