canna seeds

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Have been trying to get my seeds to germinate. need help

Macclesfield, CHESHIRE(Zone 8a)

Most Canna seed is round and very hard. To help germinate them you need to either chit the seed (cut away some of the hard outer coating of the seed - but dont go so deep it damages the white centre), or soak them in warm water for 24 hours.

Wishing success

thanks Eltel will gather some more seeds when I am done playing on the puter and will nip some and soak some hope I get lucky

As i understand it it is better to soak them for 24 hours before you scrape the outer casing.

All my Canna seeds are about the size of a small pea, only round. About the size of fresh green peas, I have never seen really small one's.

Irish,

I am also confused. My Canna seeds (indica) are about the size of a small garden pea. If you have anyhting smaller soaking is the best bet (or risk damaging your fingers with the knife !!). I too would like to know what variety of Canna produces seed that small.

well I guess I don't have seed one then, cause I don't have anything like the picture in the database. I think I've waited long enough and pretty sure I'm looking in the right place. :(

I am now thinking that my canna's are not getting pollenated the seed pods are kinda red and they are falling off the plant if you break one open they are white but still very small

I leave the pods on till they turn gray. The seeds are big like a pea and hard as a rock. Some won't set seed, they just make empty pods. The outside of the pod is covered with little black specks, could this be what the others are saving for seed?

not real sure cala, mine get the pod but have little black seeds they are white at frist and then change. I got some seeds from larkie and they are like you discribe so I guess my won't set seed :o( thanks much for the info
