You know what I did

I got fed up with my self watering pots so I drilled holes in them and made wick post out of them. I think it is going to be better for the violets.

Good for you!
Where there's a will...there is a way! :o)

I'm going to try the same thing with a few of mine I have trailers in...

Let me know how yours do will you? I have never in my life had so much trouble with AVs. I am about to throw out the 2 or 3 I have left and start over.

Makshi, so sorry to hear about your AVs. Mine are not doing great, either right now. I am trying the UltraGrowth that Bonnie mentioned. Will let you know how it does. Hang in there! Pam

Pam thanks.

Although I have hundreds of leaves planted that i bought and traded..............i am sick of the standard avs....................the leaves do weird things..........I am either overwatering or underwatering even though they are wicked with the string I bought from an av dealer.............

Makshi, I know how you feel. I've had violets for at least 15 years and have never had so much trouble. I can't seem to get anything right anymore - pots, soil, water, - nothing works anymore. I've got some plants on Snowrose's method with the layer of perlite in the bottom of the clear pots, some in self-watering ceramic pots, some potted the regular way and I'm trying some wicked in the Volkmann pots, but I'm having a problem getting the wicks to pull water. So far, Snowrose's method is working the best for me, the plants have perked up and I even have new leaves on some.

I have just was upset over the loss of my very old ones that I could cry. I don't know what is wrong. I don't see bugs or anything and I have unpotted and looked at the roots and they look good. Since I only have 3 or 4 left I am considering throwing them out bleaching and cleaning my pots and just get a couple and see what happens. I don't know what else to do since I have not done anything diff. than I have always done for years.

A lot of mine that i like but they didn't look good, I just took all but 4 leaves and started over with basically just the crown...............they are looking great............think I am going to do all of them this way...............................
This is a pic of 'Hearland's Lime Sherbert'
I literally took all but 4 leaves off, buried the neck in the soil, cut the roots off some on the bottom and look how quickly she is coming back and looking nice............I think they just get tired like we do and need a new start in life...........
