July Pictures of my pond

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

It's been a long time since I posted on this forum. Here are a few shots taken today. I have removed the small bog area which had become old and cumbersome with too much roots.

First take a look up close into my water lily. Opened today, and trapped two tiny bees. The bud gets water before it rises above the level, and when it opens a few days leter, a few bees looking for pollen always get trapped in the water in the flower.

I love that pond level view of your pond! Thank you for sharing the pics with us. It looks like you new canopy is doing an excellent job of keeping leaves and things out.

Yes, tetley. It's doing well and unlike that mosquito netting, this has almost no maintenence of washing required. It's stronger also. This is how it was before.

I always call this flower as absolultely photogenic. It's one of my favourite objects to photograph.

From what I understand from published materials I've read, that pool is actually a nectar trap that the pollen laden insects are trapped in. The insect drowns in this nectar of death and the pollen washes off and sinks to the bottom where it can pollenate the flower. I can't remember where I read that ,but if I can find the article I'll post a link soon.

Stunning close up photo, well done. Would that be the waterlily, Panama Pacific?

Dinu is that a bamboo in the background of your pond level shot?
It is very nice whatever it is.

Your pond is beautiful, Dinu! Your garden has come such a long way. I like the new shade canopy, and I can imagine how much easier it is to maintain.

Garbird,
Thanks for the information. Does it produce so much nectar? Or is that called 'nectar' because it is in the flower?

andy,
I take so many shots of this beauty that I forget its name whenever someone asks me! It's not Panama P for sure.

jeri,
That is the Polyalthea longifolia in the background. I don't grow bamboo in my yard.

gw,
Indeed, it is easier now as I hardly get to clean the pond. It has settled so nicely that I hate to replace what it is now, but there are so many of those little water lily plants in it that I have to disturb it a bit. Today's rain has filled the pond. Was waiting for that! That tree gave me a lot of problem until I *ordered* my neighbour to cut it!

Dinu can you translate what this link is talking about toilet?

http://translate.google.com/translate?sourceid=navclient&hl=en&u=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2ejacaranda%2esn%2ffiches41%2ephp

I translated it into English. I was looking up the polyalthea longifolia and don't understand the translation. Something is obvisoly loss.

Will come back tomorrow. It's midnight now - have to retire to bed to be able to return fresh tomorrow. Will pick this up then.

Dinu, Yes the flower produces all of that nectar by itself. It's a very morbid method of reproduction for such a beautiful plant. Who would suspect that a waterlily would have to commit murder to get it's flowers pollenated.
I still have not had time to find any links to back this up, but I still looking.
That is a fabulous photograph. What kind of camera do you use?

Garbird,
Thanks for the info. Yes, sometimes cruel it seems to the human mind, the ways of Nature.

My camera is Panasonic Lumix FZ8.
