Apricot Tree for Zone 3

Drumheller, Canada(Zone 3b)

I am looking to put an Apricot Tree in the yard and I was wondering if anyone in zone 3 has one, and could give me some advice. Also do you have to have 2 of them?

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

I'll ask our CBC morning man on Monday s he has at least one in his garden. I think only one. So it certainly survies and fruits herein Winnipeg 2b. In fact you can ask him. I'll send you Terry's emaial. He'll be chuffed that his apricot tree is known in AB>

I can't get the email addy forthe mornign show (called Information Radio)

So you'll have to go there yourself. Google CBCwinnipeg radio. That should get you there.

My neighbor has one - it is quite old and used to have great
apricots she said - has not done much in recent years - always seems like a storm comes along just when it is flowering or knocks all the young fruit off but this year it is really loaded - still green but we are keeping our fingers crossed.

No advice here but I understand that so long as there is another fruit tree somewhere in the neighborhood that that is enough for pollination. She is away just now - will ask her about that next week.

kinnika, I have an apricot tree that was here when we bought our place 6 years ago so I do not know what kind it is. I'am in zone 4. Apricots are one of the first fruits to bloom, so I do not get apricots every year if it freezes during bloom time.

This year my tree was loaded because we were not hit with a late freeze. Yesterday I made apricot jam. 4 quarts and 20 pints. I still have apricots to eat.

I only have one apricot tree but I have several other fruit trees. Hope this helps in some way.
