Breadfruit info
Glad you are feeling well enough to cook. Thanks that was interesting.
Thank you John! It was fun reading your paper, and a very interesting article on Breadfruit. Nice of you to share.
Yes...super. I must acquire a taste for it... Nothing like FREE food....
I have been eating breadfruit for much of my life but only just found out that it was very easy to bake it in a microwave......it comes out just like it has been baked in an imu (in the ground oven with heated rocks). One breadfruit takes about 20 minutes to bake....do not need to peel or cut it up before hand. Aloha
Stellamarina - would you be so kind as to maybe post some recipes? I am still looking for the wonderful breadfruit pudding I had many years ago....and breadfruits chips are supposedly really good....have a recipe for either?
From what I understand...breadfruit are not all alike and that some taste better than others. We planted one we actually had a chance to try that had been baked in a microwave and then served cold/room temp with a bit of Hawaiian HOT Salt. YUM. I had forgotten about that!!!
Yes...do tell us more stellamarina...pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!
Aloha
Carol, were you holding out on us?? How do we find out which ones taste better?
Hmmmm....we asked a grower and tasted some his wife had just cooked and we liked it. However, we haven't eaten it yet... lazy? I think so!!! (grin)
Sheesh! well when you figure it out, let us know. I don't know if we even have more than one kind here on island....I'll have to check that out!
Hi there again. I really do not have recipes....Just peel, cut and boil like potatoes or bake. You can cut it up and make a breadfruit salad instead of potatoes. I am willing to bet that most of the eaters will think it is potato. When you boil it you can pour off the water and then add some coconut cream with added chopped onions and let that boil on the bottom of the pot for a few minutes to thicken. Yummy! Left over cooked breadfruit we will often slice and fry with our breakfast eggs. I also throw cubes of it into a green salad. Usually i make chips from the left over cooked breadfruit....just frying in oil until golden but others make chips from an uncooked breadfruit.
As for types of breadfruit....there are lots of varieties...just like apples.....but most taste ok but everybody has their favorite. The big brown seeds inside the breadfruit taste very nice too when they have been cooked......like chestnuts. Some varieties have more seeds than others.
Hope this gives you a few ideas. Aloha
Yes it certainly does....I like experimenting, so I guess that is what is called for here....I'll let ya'll know how it goes. Thanks Stellamarina!
