I have some strange things popping in my yard.
Here's the first:
Two ID Requests (Weeds???)
More pix please.
The first picture looks like a Mulberry seedling, the second I would have said some type of hibiscus, but since it is a vine, I don't know what it is.
Thanks, Josephine. Mulberries are fairly common around here (though not in my own yard) so, I suppose a lucky bird might have dropped a seedling. Other than the fact that I know they are in my area, are they invasive? Should I let it grow and multiply? It's not in a preferred spot but I could always transplant it.
If you can use another tree it is a good thing, especially the ones that bear fruit since they are great food for the birds.
And yes, it can be transplanted.
I think the second one is a Mexican Flame vine. They have small fuzzy looking orange blooms and smell wonderful!
Crow
No, it's not Mexican Flame Vine. I have that. This is smooth and shiny.
K, let me warn you about the Mulberry....the birds do love the black fruit and you will have black bird doo everywhere....on your house, your sidewalks, your car.....it will be quite a mess, JMHO.
You could always plant it in the horse pasture...far away.
I have many Mulberries out there growing right now in cuttings and transplants. . .
Well, I think I'll pot it up for a time and see what happens. It's not growing in a place that it would do well (right under a pine tree) and would need to be transplanted anyway. I can always move it to the back yard by the horse pasture.
Sounds like a great idea to me.
oooo and if the berries fall onthe ground..which some enevitably will... you will have a bunch of drunk birds in your yard LOL
how amusing.. the berries will also drop on cars and mess em up.. so yea, they are good a lil ways out
Well, I'm just thinking 'mulberry pie, mulberry cobbler, mulberry preserves, mulberry sauce with pork loin, mulberry sauce on ice cream'.....yummy!
........mulberry patties LOL
I have two mulberry trees at my house - one white and one red. The birds love the berries so much I haven't even tasted one yet. There are very few ever left.
the first pic looks like an ornamental okra I once had.....red burgundy, maybe?
BB - that would be interesting. Isn't okra in the mallow family? Hmmmm...okra or mulberries.....I'll take whatever I get. I can pickle or preserve either and will be happy with the lot.
I pulled up a lot more of that vine today (2nd picture). It was growing up a lot of my plants and I hadn't realized it(plumeria, butterfly bush and others). Whatever it is, it's invasive and wants to smother my good things. Looks like I'm going to have to keep a really good eye out for it because it will take over fast. I just wonder what on earth it is. This has been an exceptional year for 'what's this new thing growing?'.
Have you used Messenger lately? After I used it last year for the first time, I had small plants coming up all over in the front bed that I didn't 'plant.' I think the Messenger must have helped germinate seeds that had fallen from things I'd planted a couple of years ago. It happened again this year in the back garden. I KNOW I'm not crazy! Well, I may be crazy, but that stuff wasn't there the year before.
Heheheheh......this sounds like a new movie plot. Messenger, hmmmm? It enables alien species......hope you have a round up holster.
Truthfully, no, I didn't use Messenger but I I used Superthrive, fish emulsion and kelp. Something is going on and it's movie worthy. We'll talk more when I get back!
