Did everyone's Tomatoes make it through the rain?

I was worried the recent rains would have damaged my tomatoes, but they seem to be fine. There are tons of green ones on the vines and even looking closely they look fine. Now if the fog would just burn off before noon or so they may ripen safely.

Rain? Not enough rain here....It continually amazes me that the weather can be so different over such short distances.

Your tomatoes look great!

My tomatoes aren't doing nearly as well as last year's. I'm trying different varieties this year. I think I'll go back to the sweet million or sweet 1000, whichever it was, and the yellow pear next year. I'm trying Green Zebra and WIllamette this year. So far, Willamette is doing better than GZ. It has lots more tomatoes, but they are still mostly smaller than golf balls.

nope, lost everything out doors to blight. Greenhouse still okay - but anybodies guess how long. that is one problem with growing heritage - guess that's why they became scarce.

I like the heritage better too (so yummy!), but they're hard out here with the usual lack of sunshine. I got a late start on mine-not what you want if you're doing the heirlooms! I wanted to do more but I got sidetracked, so next year, I hope! I guess Green Zebra is an heirloom type, though. I've got one tomato that's starting to get stripes. I'm going to have to look up how big they're supposed to get so I know when they're actually ripe! I've never grown one that's supposed to stay green before.

Laurie, I'd be happy to share... ;)

Okay, I had to go check. Willamette is loaded! First year I've tried it. The tomatoes are all from smaller than golf balls to some up to tennis ball size. Early Girl and Red Cherry have set maybe a couple of dozen each but they're still pretty small. Now if I can just avoid all the bad things that seem to happen to mine before I get to eat them. lol All the plants have lots of blossoms.

I've never tried heritage tomatoes, I would love to but I only have the one small space that gets enough sun and I haven't had that many successes with the easier ones.

We'll have to keep comparing notes on the Willamette! Sounds like you'll have a ripe one before I do. You'll have to tell me how you like it.

I like growing one "odd" tomato, like Yellow pear or Green Zebra and then a "full-size"-ish one, and usually a cherry or grape-sized one. I really like the cherry or grape ones because they ripen faster, but DH doesn't care for them, and with the late start I got I decided to skip them this year, and I'm really missing them. Nothing like walking by the tomato and picking a couple warm little cherry tomatoes to eat on the spot!

I don't really have a lot of sunny spots, either, so mine go in really big, ugly nursery pots. I think it helps, though. I tried the red plastic mulch the one year I built a raised bed and planted more than just tomatoes, but some of the other plants didn't seem to like the red plastic.

Believe it or not, my tomatoes almost succumbed to not enough water! We didn't have the rains that a lot of people did, plus my plants are so thick (and in a long narrow container) that the only way they get enough moisture is by the hose. I was gone overnight and DH never thought to check them. I'm often gone like that so he says he'll watch them. We'll see.

oh, yes, the DH drought....I can relate! He's much better than I am about watering the lawn, though. I guess different priorities? lol...

If I had let DH use my center garden for a putting green, I guarantee you it would be watered! Other than that, nada.

I love DH stories - make me feel sane. Mine so good at forgetting to do things that when I say 'DEREK?' with a definate rising note, he just looks at me and smiles.
