Ima first bloomer too!

I received some nice cuttings from DGer's last fall that I water rooted. They are blooming now. YEA! I appreciate the generosity of those who went to the trouble of wrapping, packing and mailing me these cuttings. They really are bringing so much enjoyment to me. I haven't opened the window yet to get a whiff, but I will. I planted four in a row on the side of my sunroom.

I read this forum all the time trying to learn all I can. I really thought that these plants were too advanced for me. When I first saw those little white nodes pop up and then roots start growing, I thought wow! I think I can do this. Growing those water roots into pots with soil was a bit of a challedge. Not having the best environment inside my house over the winter really had me worried that they wouldn't make it to spring. They did though. I probably put them in the ground too early because the unexpected frost we had in April nipped them badly.
Thankfully they recovered to produce these blooms. I'm sure I'll be posting questions when it's time to trim them up for the winter. It would be wonderful if I get the opportunity to send other folks cuttings. Who knows, these very plants may end up making around trip around the USA.
I do hope I can just leave them in the ground. Folks in town tell me they leave theirs in the ground.

Thank y'all for the complements.

Oh, yes, I'm certain you can leave them in the ground in your zone, Deborah. Wish I could. I get some help to lug em in and out every season, but they are fun and oh so rewarding. Glad you are having fun with them. Open that window!

Deborah,

It depends on the cultivar. A lot are hardy to 8a which is where I am also, but some need 9 or even 10. I have a few of those but I am not digging any. Mainly because there has been so much confusion now that they are blooming, I wouldn't know which ones they are. I will cut them all back and mulch well, and root the cuttings for back up. I will also give away a lot of cuttings as I am sure I will have more than what I will need from a lot of them.

I'll take some cuttings for myself too just for insurance.
