Garden photos (after the rains!)

Victoria,, BC(Zone 8b)

I don't know about the rest of Vancouver Island gardeners but I was glad to have the rain this last week as it saved me an hour of watering every evening ! I thought I would post some photos of my jungle (although the look is now getting more "overgrown" than "lush" !)

This is our little hidey hole in the middle of the front yard - just enough room for two chairs and a little table.

I tried some ornamental corn this year and overall I am very pleased with the results. Some of the things in the jungle were a bit of an experiment and I am now assessing what worked and what didn't.

I grew some "Bishop's Children" dahlias from seed this year and I think this is one of the nicest seedlings. It is a bit "in your face" but I like that !

The castor bean plants (Impala) are now just beginning to take off - this leaf is HUGE.

And last but not least, a sunflower, courtesy of a little birdy scattering the birdseed !

Heather - LOVE your photos. Your garden looks spectacular! I'm getting some of that Bishop's Children Dahlia seed next year - they're gorgeous!

Looks lovely Heather. The rain was nice but I'm glad it's done now. I'm off to cut the lawn!

Your garden is just lovely! I like the corn it really adds a nice touch of tropics and color. It doesn't look overgrown at all... I really like the look.

When did you plant the dahlia seeds to get them so big by this time of the year? Love the color but then I am a pushover for anything pink:)

Lush and lovely, Heather!

Heather, the ornamental corn you gave me at the RU is beautiful. Thanks so much. I need to take some pictures.

What a charming garden retreat! I, too, am of the opinion that it looks lush and not overgrown. ;)

In the first picture... is that a smokebush? I didn't realize it was so colorful.

Thanks for your comments everyone.
Jeanne, glad the corn is looking good and yes, you do need to take some pictures ! Please !
Bea, I started the dahlia seeds in February but they were pretty puny until I planted them in the ground and then they took off. I am hoping to save seed from some of the nicer ones.

Yes, Moogletree (love that name !) it is a smokebush. It has been moved a few times so has stayed small. I think the colours of the plants around it are making it stand out.
