Tumbled glass in the landscape. Discuss.

I'm currently working on a contemporary landscape design for a client and will be using some tumbled glass. I really like this stuff- in small doses. A little in the top of a container with a lone, very heat tolerant, architectural plant . I like it as filler for an outdoor gas firepit. Occasionally as a 'river' in a dry rock river bed- though that's hard to get to look just right I think but can look really cool if you run some rope light underneath it then light it up at night- the glass stones just glow.

I'm lucky in that American Specialty Glass is located right here in my own area so I can get this stuff at a much more reasonable rate. I was at their HQ last week and saw the front landscape they have done in this 'rock'. It's used in blue and green swaths across the entire front landscape setback with a few, not-nearly-heat-tolerant-enough plants poking out. WAY too much, IMO, unless it's for a Las Vegas casino. Perhaps it could be used in large amounts to greater effect but I haven't seen that done well yet. To me it's kind of like a speciman tree. Use the tree once and it's special and interesting. Use it a couple of times and it loses it's impact completely. What is graceful and unique becomes overdone and gaudy.

Well, aren't I opinionated today? Your thoughts? About the thread I mean but you are certainly free to disagree with my opinion and give other ideas to consider.
