CLOSED: Pink plants for parking lot beds at church, etc.

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

If anyone has Pink flowering plants for zone 5 that they would be willing to share, I will be happy to pay postage. We are re-doing the flower beds at church. Thanks!

Hi Cathy. I have a plant that I think is called "Hearts and Flowers". I think it's a succulent, but I wasn't able to find it in the plant files. Sorry, I'm very, very new to the gardening world. I don't know if it will do well in zone 5, but when I get home I'll take a picture of it to see if I can get an ID. If it turns out to do well in your zone, I'll be happy to send it along. It spreads like crazy here in El Paso, and all you need to do to propagate is break off a stem and stick it in the ground. I'll let you know once I've gotten it identified. Melissa

That sounds great, I'll watch for it. Thanks!

Hi again. I finally found the name of this plant. It's Aptenia cordifolia. The plantfiles link is:

It grows really well here in El Paso (zone 8b, I believe). To be honest, I haven't learned a lot about zones, so I'm not sure if this plant would work for you. If you know about the zone requirements, maybe you can tell me if you would like me to send some cuttings. I'd be happy to do so, if you think that the plant will work for your church. The pink flowers are very sweet and the leaves are glossy. I think it's a very attractive plant. Please let me know if you'd like me to send some.

Drinnian, thank you for the offer, but after reading about it, winter survival in the church parking lot would be doubtful. It would have to be in a protected spot.

Thanks again, Cathy4

I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help. If I come across any others that are a bit hardier, I'll d-mail you.
