I'm in the "too good to be true" camp, that picture looks like one of the many named cultivars that I ordered this year (sorry can't remember which one, maybe someone else will recognize it!), so even if by some chance the seeds were from the plant that they show in the picture, they're not going to come true from seed so who knows what your babies will look like. I checked out their other stuff too--their prices are absolutely ridiculous, and their Plumies look Photoshopped. And I think they've invented their own cultivar names, none of the ones on their page sound familiar at all. I wouldn't touch these guys with a 10 foot pole.

They show pics of dark royal purple ones at other times..looks like photoshop to me, and they can't predict what the seedlings will grow into.tropical hibiscus can be crossed white X white and get red seedlings. so no guarantee and besides they can't ship from Singapore to the USA without all kinds of permits.

Probably so, why not go to the National Hibiscus Society site. They do send out new, unnamed hybrid seeds. Bunch a nice folks.

"eyes"

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Eyes is right......and they send them right away. Mine had the pot parent named. Nice people.

I believe we've gone around once before concerning this seller. It also occurs to me that they were selling under a different name a few months back, disappeared, then showed up again with a new name (same pictures and ad copy, though).

I do believe these Hibiscus are only native to the Martian landscape and cannot be grown on this planet.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

LOL!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Too funny Liz. I was looking at their other auctions, they make it sound like seeds will flower true. And all their colors in their other auctions pop.

Also I rather have whole seed. LOL! "5 PIECES OF FRESH SEEDS"

Look at this purple one. http://cgi.ebay.com/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190134821250

OW OW OW!!! MY EYES!!!
Have to put the sunglasses on here...

"..., ALSO ITS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY AND FATE FOR THE LUCKY YOU TO OWN AND SHARE OUR GLORY OF NATURE..."

You too can farm the Martian landscape. Fate has selected YOU, yes you!!!
Gold dubloons and pieces of seed...I mean pieces of eight...
You crazy pirates you...

Bizarre certainly sums it up.

(Zone 11)

I believe he used to go by the name of Andy Flora.
He uses private auctions so you cant warn bidders of his reputation.
As always, buyer beware...

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 8b)

Run, don't walk, from this phony seller - unless of course, you WANT martian flowers ;-)

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

If you look REAL CLOSE at the pic of the two flowers you will see ..its the same flower just duplicated on photoshop. Look at little details in the petals, the spots from damage etc. and then compare the flowers. An old nursery trick to get people to buy plants. Was used in the Netherlands with Brugmansias for the outer packaging. same flower and then they changed its color and printed that as a different kind. Crooks abound in the plant world. If it looks too good to be true??....I got some beachfront property in Arizona to sell ya! LOL

Ocean Springs, MS

Okay, I'd love some of these martian plants, but is anyone planning a trip to Mars? Please let me know so I can book my ticket! lol
julie

VAN GOGH LIVES!
Call the National Enquirer! :-)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

By gosh.....you are so right Kyle. LOL It is the same flower. I can't even get my camera to replicate that color purple. I wish I could.

Liz, you are so funny!!

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

Something ought to be said about this seller ON eBay ... is this possible??

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

There was a big todo about something like this on the pumeria forum a while back. He was actually using photos taken (stolen) from DG and cropping the copywrite out.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

GREED..... it motivates soooo many nowadays. Ebay brings it out in people.

These flowers are hilarious. If you look really close I think most have been cut and pasted and painted. That purple one kinda reminds me of an african violet bloom only alot brighter.

By the time the seeds grow and bloom you wouldn't be able to do anything about it and on top of that pieces of seeds only grow on mars. Once touched by earthling hands they are contaminated and unfertile. Just the facts. You have to go and pick a plant and keep in in a vacuumed sealed bubble as oxygen will turn the whole plant black and blue. Then they give off a gas and must be buried in a sealed 55 gal drum and tanken to a toxic waste dump or buried in a salt dome.

If you look at the time and what I wrote I think you will agree it is time for bed I am delirious

If I had a hotmail address I would email them and ask what they use to cut the seeds into 5+ pieces.

It is definitely bedtime.
Night

No wonder Jesus loves you. You're such a smarty pants! ;-)

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I try ;O) Sad part it comes easier than I even believe at times.

I think that means a good smarty pants? ;O)

Hey Julie when you go I'll supply the vacuum sealed bags. Now where was it that sold those things??

Ocean Springs, MS

Hey, let's all go! If those flowers are real, then maybe we can make our trip "real." Sandy is supplying the vacuum sealed bags.
Let's see? I'll supply - oh, the pieces of seeds. love, julie

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Hey Julie I think nail clippers might work on those seeds. If we get enough pieces we could
be rich and have all the mars hibiscus we want.

Now who has the space ship and who is supplying the fuel??

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

I'm glad I found this thread, cuz I was gonna get some of them seeds. That would have made a martian for sure I guess.

Thing is, if ya can't have seeds shipped in from China and this a not so cool maybe of a seller, then where do ya find the seed?

I spent a total of almost 8 hours straight googling every which I could and goign through page after page and thread after thread looking for seeds and couldn't any. All I found was that when I went to get up , I couldn't , my rump was glue d to the chair seat and my legs had gone numb and of f into a world of their own and refused to do anything normal like walkign again.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Probably the reason you have trouble finding seeds is that the gorgeous tropical hibiscus pics that we drool over everyday are all hybrids, they won't come true from seed so anybody who's trying to sell you seeds for them is scamming you. If you want some of them, you need to start them from cuttings. Hardy hibiscus seeds are more readily available because a lot of people grow the straight species.

Ocean Springs, MS

starlight1153,
you can contact the American Hibiscus Society and they'll send you some seeds. You can't choose what you get, but hey, you may get a really unique one from the seeds you plant. I got some earlier this year and every seed germinated. They are about 4-5 inches high now. Just about time to pot them up and start pinching so they'll branch. Here's a link:

love, julie

That being said, there ARE growers who hybridize Hibiscus and offer seed from their various crosses.
They usually offer photos of both the parent and donor plant. The outcome of those seeds is a plant with some of the characteristics of the parent plants.

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

I appreciate the advice and the help everybody!!!!!!!! : ) It rough tryign to get started sometime s into a new field of cultivars. I had been looking and looking for years at everybody else's and this year finally decided I was gonna do more than look and drool.

I like seeds cuz sometimes I don't have the best of luck propagating woodies. Probably becaus e I am more of a dabber and a seed sprouter than anything. I haven't gotten brave enough yet to try and take cuttings of f the couple plants I have yet. Gott a learn all about it first, so I don't butcher my plant or the croak of the cuttings.

I don't care what the seed s look like. I like ugly babie s too. I love to watch seed s sprout and then ya spend the year to four years waitign to se e what kind of surprise your gonna get. When that day comes ugly or beautiful , it's a day of celebration for sure. Actually ther e is no such thign as an ugly plant . Sometimes it's the uglies that make the perefect bridge plants for the swans.

Gordo.. If you happen to know some hybridizers who do offer there seed I would be so greatful for knowing.

Dumb question., Please ... What is the scientific name for the hardy hibiscus?

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

There are several different hardy ones--H. syriacus, H. moscheutos, H. coccinea, H. mutabilis, and probably several others that I'm not thinking of off the top of my head.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Try this link. She is one of our own here at Dave's and has some hibiscus seeds. Take link to her website and type in hibiscus. She has some beautiful mallow hibiscus and others at great prices. She is in the Garden watchdog top 30. Means awesome seller. If you go to the top of this page in the middle you can find garden watchdog and there is feed back under each company anyone has bought from saying if the buyer had a good experience and whether they got good products or sometimes bad feedback.

Hope this gets you a start.
Blessings,
