CLOSED: Wanted: spiderwort!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

We have a blue one of these growing in the middle of daylilies - they are a nice relief to the predominantly orange reds of the dayliles. I have a lot of things to trade.... depends where you live.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Janet,
We would adore more blue! What can we send you? Check my "have" list or what would you be looking for?

Mama,
Named varieties are almost too much responsibility!

Hello,
I have purple and pink spiderwort if you still need it.

Thanks,
Sue

Well... gosh guys! I have a purp;e pa;ace heuchera whose days are numbered. (1... 2... 3... 4...). I have a big BIG clump of yarrow all planted together. There's probably summer berries mixed with other pink or russet colors. I do have some named daylily fans but they're under the kitchen table dry and dark.

More later.

Are they short like that, though?

Solsberry, IN(Zone 6a)

Mine is a bigger clump- maybe that is the difference. Maybe someone else could answer that better? Spiderwort is kinda invasive and multiplies fast. It has a thick grass type foilage. Does that describe yours (it's kinda hard to tell in the picture.) It's on the left in this picture--

I think how tall they are depends on your soil. My sister-in-law has better soil than me and hers are huge. I think they are pretty but invasive. I'm trying to get it out of my garden. I started out with a small plant and now it is everywhere and no matter how much I dig it up it always comes back.

I might try growing it in flower pots next year to try to contain it more.

I have blue/purple.
Let me know if you still want it - I have one to trade.

very invasive here in alkaline pure sandy soil........It is a wildflower here and covers the fields in the spring, very beautiful......but since I put it into my beds I am continually digging it out, reseeds itself from the multiple seed heads

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Hmmm. Mine is currently right now blooming about 30" high in Massachusetts on July 25. That's what I want more of... Janie, your picture says 5/26 on it. Is it still blooming???

Somehow I think one growing in a similar zone would behave similarly. I don't even know where this one came from!

Mine is blooming now, just started.

Hmmm. How tall is it (roughly)? Do I have anything that you want?

Carrie, no mine hasn't been blooming for a while. I think you are supposed to cut them back after they are done and they bloom again in late summer. I'd like to have pink ones-didnt know they had them. Mine stays pretty well to one area-just pull around it once in a while. Have ya checked on them daylilies yet?
Thanx-Janie

I Think I have pink and purple to spare. I have a pot of purple ones that are a little over knee high. I'm not sure about the pink ones I'd have to check. The purple ones are blooming still, have been all summer long.
If any one needs them let me know. I have lots :)

Sue, I would love a small start of pink spiderwort. What kinds of things are you looking for in trade?
Janie

U.P., MI(Zone 5a)

Hi Janie,
I am looking for blue flowers that are true blue, and named rose cutting or I could trade for one of your daylillies if you want.

Thanks,
Sue

Solsberry, IN(Zone 6a)

Carrie--did ya ever figure anything out about them daylilies?

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

We STILL haven't pulled out the box from under the kitchen table!!! DH keeps saying things like "hmm. The daylilies don't seem as thick this year." or "by this time last year we had crocosmia." (also in the box) We're having my family over for a picnic type of thing on Tuesday, which seems to involve a great deal of tidying up, ie hiding MORE stuff under the table!! I'm going to mark this 'closed' because I found a pot of spiderwort that I brought home from a Round-Up a month ago.... doh! But when we get the DL out I will let you know, ok?

Okay, Carrie. Thanx!!
Janie
