Passion vine question

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Now that the cats have eaten all the leaves on my passion vines what do you all do with them? Do I cut them back in the fall. I am still very new at this and my Dh wants to cut everything down as soon as all the butterflies emerge.

I guiess if ALL your leaves are gone then it is as good a time as any to cut it back. Wait to hear from some of our pros here though.

I'd cut it back a bit and see if you get some new growth...

If you cut everything down, what are the butterflies going to eat? Or does he just cut down the vine that the cats were on?
I have so much entangled with the passifloras that I just leave the naked vines. My yard is a jungle since the rain began a couple of weeks ago.

Is it safe to cut it back now in this heat?

The leaves are gone. I just have lot of naked stems!!

Mine come back every year from dying back at frost. You should maybe leave a little stem at the base where you chop it off so you won't forget and mow it too close to the ground. It may even start rejuvenationg itself once the old stems are cut off.
