I was having questions involving a butterfly i.d. and debnes-dfw-tx helped me. When I went to enter it in Bugfiles, someone else had already entered an incorrect butterfly on it's page.
The butterflies in question were the Silver Spotted Skipper and the Hoary Edge Skipper. They're pretty similar...the Hoary Edge looks like a 'worn out' version of the Silver Spotted...till you examine it closely....and then you can see that it's not ratty...it's just made that way. I'd found a Hoary Edge and thought just like lots of folks apparently, that it was an old Silver Spotted.
I contacted Admin (kennedyh) and he confirmed what I thought. He also sent me this great link where you can compare two butterflies side by side. It's a great site....just thought I'd share.
great link
Thanks for passing along that link. I shall add the link to the sticky thread! That's a really good comparison site since there are sooooo many butterflies that look similar. Thank you!
Thanks for bringing up the Massachusett's Butterfly site. They must have really thought out their web site presentation--it's so useful set up that way!
I was quite impressed myself...I plan on sending the link to the professor at Western KY University who I'm working with this summer.
What a good link that is Melody! Just in time! It will be a big help to me.
Thanks to Ken o/~
