Splitting tree peony

Does anyone know if tree peonies can be split and if so what is the best way to go about it.

Tree peonies are usually grafted, so don't try to propagate from the roots. Take branch cuttings, and root them in pots. All the "experts" I have read say cuttings are slow to root, so you'll have to overwinter the pots indoors or in a greenhouse. They also say that only a small proportion of cuttings actually grow, so good luck!
