Just beautiful. I would love to try something like that but don't think they could survive our cold winters. I look forward more updates...your patio is lovely...Rose

That's really an interesting comment dellrose, considering where I got the inspiration! I was studying old european garden design and kept seeing large terra cotta pots in the old gardens with citrus trees in them. It turns out that the european climates were too cold to grow citrus except in the far south, so the europeans developed a way to grow them in terra cotta and then store them for the winter in a sort of barn called an orangerie. They were considered a delicacy for the wealthy. I love the look and hope someday to get them tall enough to create shade you can walk under and sit in in my hot courtyard. Of course, I don't need to take them in as I am in so cal, but I love the look and the fragrance is fabulous.

garden...that is verrrry interesting. I will have to investigate this further. I have a crummy basement I could store some pots over the winter. I know on another thread I saw where someone does that with tons of potted plants..just stacks the smaller pots inside of the larger ones. I am originally from so cal and lived in LA and OC. I remember the orange groves and fields of veggies and strawberries in the "olden days". I agree..the fragrance is something you never forget. Thanks for the trip down memory lane...Rose.

This is my first time using containers. I live 6miles from the Mex. border. It's very hot @ humid here!!!I I have roses growing in plastic kitty litter containers. I use good potting mix. WE have had lots of rain, too much rain! Thanks to containers I can easily move them as I think they are getting too wet. Have lots of brown leaves.I hope I don't lose them as they are very costly. I have never had much luck with roses, but I keep trying. They won't grow in my clay soil even tho it is very well amended. Thanks for listening!
