Bugs on waterlily stems

Fair Grove, MO(Zone 6b)

This spring I was repotting my waterlilys and found some rough spots on my lily stems. Upon closer inspection I saw it was attached to the stems and I had to scrape it off with my fingernail. Some of the spots were brown and some were green, the green ones I think were bugs of some sort, & the brown ones had already hatched?. I saved some so I could look at them under a microscope but then I lost the towel I put them on to save.

Anyone know what this might be & if it is harmful to my fish.

Periodically, we get a ton of aphids on our lotus and lilies. They were so thick once on a lotus bud it was nearly black. I just spray them off with the hose. They are gone for a while, then come back and I spray again. Not sure if that's what you have, but a jet of water won't hurt.

When I was repotting these plants I tried to just wash them (it) off but it would not wash off, I had to use my fingernail and scrape it off. That sure slows down the repotting process.

Whatever this is, is not aphids I have had them before, and they are on the sticking out of the water leaves, & I just washed them off a couple of times.

I've got a few more lilys to repot yet, I ran out of pots and had to get some more and just haven't finished the job, I'll try to get pictures of these whatever they are.

Can water plants get scale? That's kind of what it sounds like...

I don't know but I will do some research and find out.

I hope not.

Back to aphids, I sprayed the lily pads off yesterday and the fish had a great snack. They were even climbing on the pads that were slightly under water (small gold fish). It was pretty funny.

Whatever this is it is under water and on the stems of the lilies.

If it is scale how do you get rid of it?
