Help white powdery mildew on my Star of India

(Zone 4a)

This is a new plant I planted this spring. Right now it is covered in that white powdery mildew from top to bottom. Should I be cutting it back to the ground or trying to use some home remedy or store bought product to clear it up???

You can cut it down to 1-2 feet, eliminating all the
infected leaves, which should be burned, not composted.

Or, you can make your own spray. This is a recipe I have
used with success, but there are others, too.

Mildew spray:
Mix 1 tablespoon baking soda, 2 1/2 tablespoons
vegetable oil with one gallon of water. Shake this up very
thoroughly. To this mix add 1/2 teaspoon of pure Castile soap
and spray. Be sure to agitate your sprayer while you work to
keep the ingredients from separating. Cover upper and lower
leaf surfaces and spray some on the soil.
Repeat every 5-7 days as needed.
