Mystery Eggs, what are they?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I found this cluster of eggs on my potted Monarda, just on one leaf, they are very tiny and iridescent, sort of metallic looking, so I picked the leaf to see what they turn into. I think they look very different.

And here is what they look like when we enlarged the picture, Weird!!!
The seem to have hairs on them, and it looks like some may have already hatched!!!!
What could they possibly be?

Thank you, I just can't believe the hairs or whatever they are, I have never seen eggs like that.

Hi Josephine!
So far from looking I believe they are some sort of Stink Bug eggs.. Podisus.

Here is a pic that comes close, though it could be any number in the species:

Oh wow! I think you are right they sure look like them, those are some strange looking things. I will keep watching, but i think you have it right.
Thanks a million, what a detective!!!!

So glad I could help Josephine.. They really are kindof pretty too. You are lucky you catch them at this stage too, so you can decide whether you want them all, just a few, or none. :-). What a defense they have though! The eggs are so dazzling that one might easily allow them to live, when if more people knew what they looked like, they would get a good squashing before taking over their garden. In small numbers I am sure they can be plenty benificial even in a butterfly garden. I confess to leaving some be. I would have to think hard about having a whole clutch, and it would probably get voted out.

Hugs!

I probably will get rid of them, but I want to see them come out, they are so strange looking.

Yeppers, pretty eggs...bad bugs :o)

Lost count on all the unknown eggs I've raised only to find out when they hatched they were assassin bugs, cinch bugs and other pests/predators.

Yeah Cat, Dissapointing sometimes.. though I have to say it is great to be able to organicly control them on that level, (squish). You got some valuable information by raising them as you did.

Bug Guide had lots of pics of preditory egg pics, just by typing in key word, "eggs". Excellent concept for controlling numbers or removing.

oh man!!! How could something so pretty turn out to be so bad

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

I have a LOT of stink bugs in my garden. I haven't seen any eggs like that yet. Very cool looking eggs, Josephine! Though I agree, you don't want THAT many in your yard as they are a predator to the cats. :-( How do even 2% of cats make it in the wild?

Good question Becky! :-
