Tiger swallowtail on buddleia

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I got these shots today at my mom's house. This swallowtail was so intent on his meal, he didn't notice me at all.

Thanks! I love those long tails. Just before I saw those, there was a small butterfly on her coneflowers. All I had out was my camera phone and the shot didn't come out well. That's why I got my regular camera out of the bag! lol Here's the other butterfly. He looks pretty battle-worn and ragged.

Your other butterfly looks like a red admiral:

I just have to tell yall. I just came in from doing my rounds in my backyard, making sure all my plants are okay. They are all young and trying to grow. Anyways, while I was out I see something yellow fly over and oh my Gosh it is a Tiger swallowtail. I have seen pics on here so many times and thought well that is one butterfly I will never see. I saw it. Then it came through the yard again, flitted a little while but did not stay. I thought I don't have anything here that it likes but I see it likes the butterfly bush and I have five of those they just are not blooming so great right now. I am just so excited I had to come tell my BF people. That sucker was huge. And soooooo beautiful. I wish it would have landed somewhere but feel blessed just to have seen it passing through.

That's great! My butterfly bushes are puny, as usual, but worse from the weird spring we had with its late freeze. My mom's is doing great, though.

I think I saw a monarch today, but it didn't stick around. There are little white ones, too, but I've not gotten a picture of any of them.

I have a lot of little white ones flitting around my neighbors garden also and once in awhile will come over to visit but never stay. Maybe our like will change gardenwife.
