This little butterfly posed quite nicely for me this afternoon when I was at my parents' house. I just wish I had my good camera with me. Can anyone help with an ID?
ID help
that is a Gulf Fritillary. Great pics
Wow. That was fast. Now I really feel like a novice.
Thank you.
Beautiful pictures, Tx Doodlebug!
What a pretty butterfly! Great pictures Doodlebug!!!! The colours are just beautiful!
Lovely photos! The vibrant coloring of the Gulf Frits always make me catch my breath. Do hope you have passiflora vines in your yard...they use that as a larval host and are very prolific. They strips my vines each year and it's great to see so many caterpillars, chrysalids and butterflies about.

Picture perfect photos of your butterfly! Don't forget to post them in the photo forum or the Bug Files! They are gorgeous!
Thanks for the nice comments everyone. I could believe how "still" this one was for me. It was captivating!
Cat - I took the picture at my parents' house. I know they have lots of vines but I don't know if any of them are passiflora vines. Maybe I need to plant some to get these little guys at my house.
:-)
Doodlebug - The host vines for these butterflies is very easy to grow. And they grow well in your zone and climate. Go for it! :-)
We are slowly adding a thread here for some of the more common butterflies for IDing purposes. Check it out! There may be more butterflies that you see now or in the future! :-)

Welcome to the Butterfly Forum!!! :-)
Yes, becky, I meant to tell you that is a really great resource thread and 'Quick Connect' to BugFiles that you started!
I think it's so good it ought to be made a 'sticky' for the top of the thread list....
I wish I had some photos to add, but all of my bfs are pretty common these days...
Thanks, Judy! That thread is listed at the bottom of the first post in the sticky thread. :-)
