How to keep parsley fresh for cats?

Manning, SC(Zone 8a)

Well, I've run out of dill (between the voracious appetites of my BST cats, and it's going to seed), and the parsley I have in my garden is dwindling. Hubby went out and got me two nice bunches of parsley at the grocery store. After refreshing their supply for today, I still have quite a bit left that I'd like to use for tomorrow, but it gets limp so fast! Anybody have any great hints for keeping it fresh longer?

Get a parsley, dill or fennel plant and put it right into the cage.

I keep mine(store bought) in the a baggie in the fridge. It stays fresh for quite a while, just get it out as needed. Are you putting the stems in Oasis or water when you put them in the cage?

I have 25 cats, they would go thru quite a few potted plants, they're eating like crazy! Yup fly_girl, I'm using the florist foam, so the stems are lasting pretty well as the cats munch on them. And plunging the parsley into cold water for a bit before I shake it out and put it in with the cats seems to help. If I have to make a trip to the store every other day, it's worth it!!

Hang in there thea! 25...wow! That's a bunch!

I use the floral foam that holds moisture, but I also cover the top with the Glad Press and Seal film. In this little nursery container, I have cut the bottom from a water bottle to use. I make a hole with an exacto knife and stick the stems into it, making fresh holes when new sprigs are added.

Checkling in on you Thea. 25 cats. You are so awesome!!. Sounds like you are calming down a bit and getting a little more used to the situation. And still doing a great job. I am so proud for you. Glad your hubby can get the parsley at the store. I bet those are some eating monsters. I know the ones I had on my dill, that I did not raise myself and will probably never have the chance again, sniff, ate the dill like crazy. It will never cease to amaze me how much they eat and how fast they grow.

Keep up the great work girl. You are going to be so rewarded.

Leslie you are so kind!!!! No, I'm STILL a nervous wreck!! I'm practically LIVING upstairs in the spare room, I'm spending so much time checking on my babies! One of them late this afternoon had the runny diarehea, so I figured it's close to pupating time. I had one stick in the cage already, but I decided I'd better get some more, so I ran down to my herb garden, and when I got back upstairs, that cat had left his little area. There were others roaming around the cage, so then I wasn't sure which was the one that should be close to pupating!! Then two others pooped the runny stuff! But several others have climbed the sticks (and one on my upside down plant holder leg) and they're still pooping the little round pellets. So HOW do you know for sure they're about to start the pupation stage? Maybe I should make that a seperate thread. I've been picking up some of the roaming guys and putting them back on the parsley but maybe they're really looking for a place to pupate. Yikes, this is scary!!!!! I just so don't want to do any harm.....

It looks like they are big enough to pupate for sure. You have a bunch of healthy cats there. They have been fed well. LOL! You can't really tell when they are ready until they go into the comma stage. Usually they don't change positions once they do that.
