Lost a Reliance peach to this same "prettiness" LOL this Spring. It had this last year and this Spring leafed out...then wilted and died. I see no borers present. Both my dwarf peach and my remaining Reliance show the same symptoms. The oozing stuff is just like jelly and smells sweet. Only insects I see around the base of the tree are ants. I'm thinking maybe it is something bacterial....????? I saw slight wilting to the leaves even though we have just had rain so pulled back the dirt and mulch - voila! jelly!
I wonder if I should just dig them up and be done w/ it. If I do choose to do so, is there any danger in putting in an evergreen or dogwood where these used to be? Neither are large trees, they have been in the ground for about a year and the trunk is no more than 2.5 inches or so in diameter. Thanks!

Peach tree oozing at trunk, declining, not borer
It's some type of borer and the treatment is at this website...
http://www.bookcliffgardens.com/answercenter/fruit_trees.htm
So you think they can still be saved at this point?
According to that website, you should be able to fumigate the borers out. How is the rest of the tree?
The leaves are starting to slightly wilt on both (in spite of a lot of recent rain) and when I snapped off a twig, the center was brown.
Humm... I don't really know. There's no harm in trying to save it though.. Might want to fumigate as soon as possible to maximize the chances of recovery..
Ok, I normally am chemical-free but will give it a shot. :)
Well, the website said mothballs.. So, I guess... But it's not application just around it to stink the borers out of the tree..
