CLOSED: Wanted Snowball Bush, European Snowball

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

I would love to have some cuttings of this snowball bush. I think this is the one with very large round greenish white flowers that are cut to dry.

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

mine isent green their white,so maybe this isent the right one that youre looking for?

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Moretz I want the one they call snowball bush that has the huge round blooms that people dry or can leave on the bush during the winter. Do you know what I am talking about?

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

does it bloom in spring or fall? i have a snowball bush and it blooms in spring and the blooms are all gone so i guess this isent the right one sorry wish i had what youre looking for

Browns Mills, NJ(Zone 6b)

my snowball bush does the same thing. They just dissapeared...

Presque Isle, MI(Zone 5a)

Hydrangea Annabell seems to fit the description. It last through the winter, is used for dried flowers and is white and very large. I have one for trade.

Gary

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

yes that is what i was thinking he's talking about a hydrangea instead of a snowball bush which is almost the same thing except for the blooms lasting longer
you wouldnt know the botanical name would you or have a pic of it?

Browns Mills, NJ(Zone 6b)

this is a plantfile picture of annabell....

We went thru this on the Hydrangea forum, also.

What people refer to as a snowball bush apparently varies by region.

But what Makshi is looking for sounds like an Annabelle hydrangea.

Dothan, AL(Zone 8b)

Annabelle Hydrangea still a baby but huge blooms.

Well, I have a PeeGee Hydrangea that blooms in late summer (just started) and it holds it's dried flowers all winter, which are green when they first come on the bush, then open to white. They are huge, too! Maybe that is what you're talking about? A lot of my locals have called it a snowball bush, but I think the snowball is a vibernum?

Here is a link to the plant file entry on PeeGee:

Also, here is a pic of mine.... I have a lot of cuttings rooted, too, if you're interested.

And here is an example of the "bloom" size, which is actually a cluster of small blooms, you know......

Yes it is the Annabelle one. I have never heard them call anything but snowball bush so wasn't sure. So does anyone have cuttings of it they would like to find a home for or doesn't it start that way?

Bay, AR(Zone 7a)

OK, sorry I don't have the 'Annabelle' but if you're interested in any PeeGee, I have those. Didn't garyt say above he had an 'Annabelle' available for trade?
Gail

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

this is the one makshi wants, its a viburnum not a hydrangea, sorry but i dont have this one either

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

the only places i seen to buy it was out of the US so hopefully someone will have one for trade i tried lol

Presque Isle, MI(Zone 5a)

I have V. opulus roseum. It is listed in some places as "the Snowball Bush". It blooms in the spring and the flowers disappear in about two weeks. It almost looks like deer damage where the flowers were.

Gary

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Moretz thank you for identifying it for me. Confusion runs ramped in my head.

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

makshi
np i hope you can find you one,i love it as well lol enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bay, AR(Zone 7a)

Well, the confusion is spreading! Where makshi said above "Yes it is the Annabelle one." I thought she meant that is the one she wants! Either way, Gary said he has both, although only mentions the hydrangea 'Annabelle' for trade. He did say he has the viburnum too, though.

If the viburnum opulus roseum is THE one you want, makshi, then you need to either ask Gary to take a cutting of his for you or click on the link that moretz has above (to the Plant Files page on it) and see who all has posted pics of it. You can then d-mail those people and see if they have any for trade.

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Garden I think it looks more like the viburrum but I always thought it was a hydrangea. I just know that they have huge round blooms that are greenish and last all winter. I am really confused.

Bay, AR(Zone 7a)

So actually, you're still not sure which one it is you want? That's a tough one, then! If you decide you would like to try the PeeGee hydrangea I have, just let me know. I have several cuttings rooting....

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

makshi
then i would get one of each and then you will know for sure you have it lol good luck on your search

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

The viburnum flowers don't last all winter in this area, where the Annabelle does. I don't think the viburnum would last all winter in Illinois. The Pee Gee heads last most of the winter also.

Are they blooming right now in your area? Is there anywhere you see them, where you could ask the owner for ID?

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

I could if I can get one of the kids to stop for me to ask. Everything embarrasses them.

Bay, AR(Zone 7a)

Are you their mother? This is where the line "BECAUSE I SAID SO!" comes in!! LOL

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Garden that doesn't work well when they are all over 35 years old. :)

Bay, AR(Zone 7a)

If they're that old then they shouldn't get embarrassed so easy! But I still mind my momma (most of the time) and I'm 44!! LOL Maybe you can talk one of them into stopping for you one day so you can get the TRUE name of what it is you're wanting (that is, IF the person keeps up with that kind of stuff!). Anyway, good luck! If you decide you want a rooted cutting of my peegee hydrangea, just let me know!
Gail

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Well, if they don't know what it is, ask if you can have a leaf. Then take a quick pic and post it. Experts here can tell the difference between a viburnum, and a hydrangea.

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Thanks all I am going to do some detective work and see what I can find out.

Dothan, AL(Zone 8b)

This is what I think of as a snow ball bush. It is called Opuls Roseum. I would like to have one of these.

Georgetown, IN(Zone 6a)

are you sure it isnt the viburnum that you are looking for? Look at th European Viburnum, If that is what you want, I can give you some cuttings. Look at it in my have list.

South/Central, FL(Zone 9a)

gardenergail,...Your PeeGee Hydrangea is very lovely. Do you know old is it?

~Lucy

Bay, AR(Zone 7a)

Thanks, Lucy. It was here (and this size) when we bought the house in '99. I would guess 15-20 yrs old.
Gail

South/Central, FL(Zone 9a)

I kind of imagined that. It's a fine one. : )

Bay, AR(Zone 7a)
