I can tell you from experience to not plant the redbud tree where it is not protected from wind damage. It is a soft wooded tree. I didn't know that and planted mine outside my fence in the open. It was so beautiful and full and perfect till last year the wind caused a big branch to split off of it. This year another 1/3 of the tree suffered the same wind damage. I don't hold out hope for it to live if another burst of wind hits it. In hindsight I wish I would have planted it up close to the house on the less windy side. I do know it is not a long lived tree from what I've read about it. It's beautiful though so enjoy it while you can. I have a small one less than two feet tall I'm babying in my perennial bed that I got from the Arbor Day foundation. I'll be sure to plant this one up by the house.

Good luck. I don't know much about the rest of the plants. Maybe someone else can help you.

Brenda, I had to chuckle, I have 2 Red buds in my perinneal bed that I'm babing. I also got them from Arbor Day Foundation. LOL I'm looking for a parent for one of them.
