Lovage is a host plant :-)

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

Last year I was asking about Lovage as being a host plant, is this a relative to the carrot family? I have cats on it as we speak earlier than last year so it must be! I'm so excited! Last year the cats were on it after the 'other' host plants were eaten to the bone and it was later in the season so I just thought it was a fluke but the cats are on my Lovage again and earlier this year.

I wish I had a camera :-(

Now if I'm not back for a while I'm having good ole computer trouble just had to let everybody know.

if it is in the carrot family then you probably have Black Swallowtail cats. Congrats!!!

Thank you DonnaB I am quite proud, is the eastern swallowtail and black swallowtail the same? I just read that the eastern swalowtail lays eggs on the carrot family. I don't know much about these butterflies other then they are beautiful and I really enjoy watching them flutter about and eating all of my host plants.

Good for you LeBug! Enjoy!! I always find that the "wild" carrot type of plant works best for them! Watch out though! I've had some of my BST cocoons for 3 months now and counting....
