Need help saving software programs currently installed

Northwest, MO(Zone 5a)

We have Microsoft Windows XP 2000 with 1.33 GHz, 256 MB of RAM. It has been running real sluggish for sometime now, and we had a computer guy come out to check it out. He said we need to clean the whole thing out and reload all the programs and start fresh. We've had this computer for around 7 years. We need to have the original software programs so he can reinstall it. If my memory serves me correctly, we had this computer built for us and I don't have any of the software....anyway...I can't seem to locate the original software. Is there anyway we can save the original software programs that were installed on the computer, clean out the whole computer and reinstall the software programs?

More information on the computer...Local Disk (C:) drive has used space of 14.1 GB and free space of 19.2 GB. System_Sav(D:) has used space of 2.93 GB and free space of 983 GB. Could this be some of our problem?

I have defraged, removed all the unused programs, and other basic stuff...to no avail.

Any and all help would be appreciated. Hubby is just thinking about getting a new computer...what do you all think?
