Sounds like the former homeowner was trying to repel intruders with these and the asparagus fern thorns....
and the sago palms. lol.
That Palm is very very very nice... I would keep it and move it... (or sell it to a local plant place!) I would love to be able to grow one of those.

How big is it? You might be better to call some landscapers and ask them. If it is good sized you will have to get some major manpower in there to move it.
You can kinda see it in this picture on the far right. It's a bit whispy looking in the photo, it's grown some. I have two. Sigh.
I was going to keep them----thought was just a sweet bush---then I id'd them and found out nope a TREE. And with a killer pokey trunk to boot.
Right - they dont look too old - one person might be able to get in there and get it done.
