Question on Datura...

Zanesville, OH(Zone 6a)

Those of you who have grown both D. inoxia and D. wrightii, please tell me which you found to be the most fragrant. And feel free to share your pics!

I never took any pics of mine but I did find D. inoxia had a nicer scent. All Datura have a stinky smell to me up close but have a lovely wafting scent!! Just don't stick your nise in it LOL!

Thanks for letting me know! Last year, I grew D. inoxia from seeds in a trade. The smell wasn't strong but it was pleasant...lemony. I just didn't realize they would sprawl and and couldn't keep them where they were. I also grew D. metel 'Ballerina Purple' which got about 5 ft. tall, much to my surprise. At night it had a pleasant fragrance, but during the day it smelled more like cabbage to me LOL. This year, I'm trying D. inoxia 'Evening Fragrance' seeds that I received in a trade. I'd like to try D. wrightii to compare. I'm thinking I'll eventually place these plants where the flowers can be admired from a distance (on a hill in our back yard) but I more than likely won't smell them.

I have seen pic of wrightii HUGE! so give it some space. Mine flowered then we had alot of rain and it never came back. It didn't get that big at the time it was maybe 2 ft high and wide.

My d. metel has reseeded itself this year. I find the fragrance too strong, almost chemical, and the foliage during the day has an unpleasant odor, but oh boy those blooms! I haven't tried wrightii or inoxia.
