Thanks for the photo
How long to a plant that size from a slip?

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

Tropicman
With all the rain we both have had we are both officially tropical growers !
for a while any how.
since last of May have not viewed sun for more than a few minutes a day we had more rain last night .
i have been out on a hibiscus search all over our out lying towns and in Tulsa trying to replace hibiscus i lost in our move last July .
they were hard to find this year got one and it had wrong tag in it ,.
Got the red foliage one suppose to be hardy here? . rose that has red stems , a pure white . they are not in to good shape , but should be fine next year .
all the sun less days in nursery they grew side ways . .
they had no names but were in bloom so i at least got the colors
i wanted .
Love the variegate and tri- color foliage but they are not hardy here are they ?

Hi Taz,
From the foliage color and leaf size, looks like you have copper king and blue river.
yes all the rain the mosquitoes are going crazy here even during the daytime hours, because had so much cloudiness like you no sun,but muggy and hot there.no wind to speak of either,
no the varigated hibiscuses are not hardy here, maybe a warm zone 9 might make it,but if a frost hit them hard they would probably croak!
You should be a zone 7 now,like me in Wichita,just barely though!!!LOL

MS,if you could grow it in a tropical location, maybe a year, watered and fertilized properly, but our zones a good 2 years wintering in a greenhouse with warm 70* temps!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Malestrom, with a heavy fertilizer schedule and your summer heat I bet you would achieve a good size plant quickly. Not as large as Tropicman's perhaps but a decent, blooming plant. With your plumies you are used to fertilizing often; just do the same with the hibs using half strength twice as often. Big difference however is that hibs do not like a lot of phosphorus so you would use a fert with a lower middle number.

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 8b)

You're right, Ardesia. I've been fertilizing religiously every two weeks since the season began with a combo of specialized hibiscus fertilizer and bloom booster, and I've had terrific results :-)

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

Good info thanks
I just fed all the Hibs for Fred with a bloom booster lol!
Theyre bloomin like crazy so hopefully no harm done eh?

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

me to !
thanks
I did not know about them not liking phosphorus

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Me either,I use shultz flower booster,10-60-10,works great for me.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Hey, if it works - I'm all for it!

I am just repeating what the growers suggest and when I switched to a lower middle number my plants became healthier looking (greener and fuller) and I still had plenty of flowers.

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

The nitrogen (first number) gives the green foliage.
I have a series of chems I mix together to make what I call Malestroms Mojo Juice.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

I hear you.I too mix a few micro nutrients,to my granular fertilizers ,especially a little
Epsom salts!!!

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

I hadnt thought of epsom salts.
I use Super Thrive, Soil Syrup, Bloom Booster (or 20-20-20) and a lil Bills perfect Fertilizer
Its Fish emulsion MMMMMMmmmm good.. smelly too LOL!!
Some times Ill add a beer or a coke.
Anything I set in a bucket (5 gallon) of this perks right up.
I drink whatever is left ;'P

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

LOL!
Does it perk you up too!!!LOL

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

I cannot comment on what it does to me as I have no recollection. ^^

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Pleading the 5th!!LOL
