Ok so I was out today and saw this painting being thrown away to me it looked like Ladybird Johnson... Esther thinks the same, not to mention evne if not it is to great a painting to just toss.. so it found a new home - so what do you think is this our dear LadyBird?
Is this???
Mitch, I don't think it's LadyBird, but it's a nice painting. How come I never find anything good like that tossed??? I guess I need to look in classier bins! Your lady looks slightly oriental to me. Is the painting signed. I have a Davenport's that I can look up the artist for you if you like, and if it's signed.
Good find!
Not signed... but the two with it are. One by Gayle Cook and the other by Sue Burnett.
yep three in the trash... but this one caught our eye - no name on it but a stunning painting none the less...
Yes, the lady looks oriental to me also, sorry Mitch, I wish it was Ladybird.
It's a beautiful picture, Mitch! I agree, it's an asian painting but gorgeous, nonetheless. You did good!
Maybe in the heat we wanted it to be her very much... but still nice none the less...
I'll bet it was thrown out by a second wife because hubby kept his first wife's portrait over the fireplace and got sentimental every time he looked at it. Did you hear about the woman who got the Jackson Pollack painting...I think maybe at a garage sale? Now she can't prove to the art world that it's his work in spite of scientific evidence that it is, so she wrote a book and goes around the talk show circuit telling everybody the art world doesn't want to accept DNA evidence of authenticity because then a lot of the art work they have invested in will be proven to be forgeries.
Mitch, I checked the Davenport's for the two artist's names you gave. Neither is listed. All this means is that there are no current auction listing results for them. Nice painting none the less.
Crow
Thanks - and I love the price!
amen
Mitch, Any chance it could be by Gaye Cooksey? She's an artist in the area.
There is a chance for anything - would be nice to have a name but without a name on it it might be hard.
