Is this also known as "Rajun cajun" plant???

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Hi Angel! yes, I have heard the plant calle d by that name before. I have no idea wher e to fidn the seeds, unles s it it is like the other Ruellia family ones and thos e make like a small tiny green cigar looking pod that turns black and if you don't get it when it abotu halfway turned then it wil explode the seeds all out and you'll never find them.

I hope somebody come s alogn that might know and sure woudl appreciate gettign some if you can collect them and be glad to trad e or whatever for them.

Thanks for checking and answering. : )

Ok I'll keep an eye on it for anything resembling a pod. I will google it also to see what they say about it.

Starlight I have seeds harvested a couple of weeks ago. Just send a SASE envie with .41 postage. no need for bubble envie on these, they are small and flat.

Angel where the flower blooms it will make a little green pod that will turn brown when ready. You have to be quick because they pop open and throw the seeds out.. I usually pick when all brown on top with just a tiny hint of green where it attaches to the stem. Wrap in paper towel. You will hear them pop lol

Donna,

I have never noticed a pod where the flower blooms. Interesting. I'm out there every day too looking at everything.

Thanks for the info. I will definitely keep an eye out!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

I'll try to think about getting a pic when more pods form

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

I only have a tiny one that has produced about 4 blooms so far but no seeds yet. Keeping my fingers crossed cuz I like this one.

Budgielover,

Throw some 'bloom start' on your plant and you should get more blooms.

Donna,

I did notice the other day a seed pod on my plant. I now see several more forming so I am ready to get them soon as they turn brown. Thanks for the info!

Angel. Pick them befor e they turn brown or you won't fidn them. LOL

They cna turn in a matter of hour s on a sunny day. Pick them as soon a s you se e any type of brown starting and put in a jar, or tall glass on your counter or table and put a piec eof paper over it with somethign to hold the paper down . In a day or so you wil hear pop ..pop..pop as the seed casings explode open and the seed s all pop out. : )

Can scare the daylight s out of ya when they pop and your not expectign it.

Donna.. I forgot all about sending you some times. Is it to late by chance? Forgettign my brain her e lately it seems.

Your flowers are beautiful. How do you grow them from seed. Do you happen to know?

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

They are a small flat seed so you should surface sow them and keep in lots of sun. I recieved the plant in trade. I have more seed pods forming now but have 2 SASE on the way. Will let you know when I get more or if the SASE don't come in

Carrie - I use Bloom Booster in a sprayer and then water my flower beds. You can water the leaves and the soil around the roots. In about a week or two you should see more blooms! Good luck!

Okay thanks for the info guys. I now can see alot of mine going to seed pod. I guess before I thought that was a new flower bloom or I just didnt look close enough.

I noticed when the pod splits open it has alot of tiny seeds in it. Very cool!! I dont have alot yet but maybe later this fall I will have enough to start doing some trades.

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Louise... I sent you the Luna White Hibiscus seeds you asked. I don't have the Red Ruella. I am tryign to get some, which is how I starte d this thread.

The seed s I sent had luna white written on the seed bag. Are the seeds small and round. If they are they the hibiscus seeds and have no idea who sent the seeds your talkign about.

Hooks, TX

starlight,
Please excuse! It was my error. DonnaB (a poster on this thread) is the one who has sent the Red Ruella to me. Senior moment here*&^%.
I have received the hibiscus and the red ruella - just checked to make sure! I think the reason for my problem was that I found both of you on this thread.

I must find a better record keeping system!
